Mixtape: Fourteen of the Bay Area's Best Record Labels (Podcast #325)

http://media.libsyn.com/media/thebaybridged/Record_Labels_Mix.mp3 Download: Mixtape: The Bay Area's Best Record Labels (Podcast #325) It's conventional wisdom nowadays that bands no longer need record labels to release music into the world. Still, it would be foolish to think that labels no longer matter. A label association can be a critical stamp of approval for potential new fans; the best labels build audiences' trust to the point that they'll support new artists even before hearing them. All of this is to say nothing, of course, of the distribution services labels can offer, and any financial or booking support they might also provide. In recent [...]

Video: Permanent Collection – "It's Alright" (and tour dates)

San Francisco shoegazers Permanent Collection have released a video for their newest single, "It's Alright". True to their genre of choice, Permanent Collection (which was created by former Young Prisms member Jason Hendardy) graft poppy melodies onto syrupy guitars and thin, ghostly vocals. For the video, the band jack a car and mischievously drive around San Francisco, downing 40s, eating at a late-night diner, and watching hockey at a bar until, with some clever editing, the last minute of their escapade becomes a weird, wobbly visual bender. You can catch the band live when they open for Mikal Cronin at [...]

Mikal Cronin headlining Milk Bar 6/1/12

San Francisco psych-garage rocker Mikal Cronin will headline the Milk Bar in San Francisco on Friday, June 1st. If you haven't seen the frequent Ty Segall collaborator perform on his own yet, now's your chance to enjoy Cronin's ear for blistering and catchy garage pop tunes. Burnt Ones and Permanent Collection will provide support. Personally, I thought his debut self-titled album was one of the best San Francisco releases in 2011. It's creative, upbeat rock that will leave you dizzy with satisfaction. Mikal Cronin, Burnt Ones, Permanent Collection Milk Bar SF June 1, 2012 9pm, $6

Permanent Collection share track from upcoming LP

Permanent Collection’s previous EP, last year’s Delirium (a solo effort from ex-Young Prism Jason Hendardy), was a reverb-heavy release that had some folks divided on whether it was an overdone mess or a dream-pop masterpiece. Judging from the first track to be shared off of the debut LP set for an August 7 release on Hendardy and friends' Loglady Records, Newly Wed Nearly Dead should satisfy both camps. The noise and atmosphere are still there, but Hendardy’s vocals emerge from the squall to complement the music, not get suffocated by it. Perhaps it was the influence of three newly recruited [...]
