Is that rain so often falling from the Seattle sky, or is it tears? It seems that it's been sad times for Mike Hadreas, the man behind Perfume Genius who fortunately has a knack for channeling his pain into heartrending piano ballads rather than falling apart. The excellent new record, Put Your Back N 2 It, is only slightly less devastating than his 2010 debut, Learning, and that's probably only due to the lush orchestration of the sophomore effort that contrasts so starkly with the bleak arrangements of the first.
