Every Monday, we'll be offering you early picks for some of the week's best concerts. Do you think we omitted something worthwhile? Let us know in the comments! Be sure to visit our Local Concert Calendar for an expanded set of daily listings. Papercuts return home with Fading Parade I've been listening to Fading Parade, the latest from Papercuts, like crazy lately, and every spin has me confused as to why this band isn't yet a bigger name. Jason Quever has constructed an album that's lush and layered, but rooted in great pop songs that thrive in the haze. Papercuts [...]

Out this week: New albums from Papercuts, Lumerians, Earth Girl Helen Brown, That Ghost

Here's a look at four Bay Area bands and artists who all released new records this week. While he's well known as a studio wizard, what struck me most in recently seeing Papercuts perform was that Jason Quever can also write a hell of a pop song. His first album on Sub Pop is the brand new Fading Parade. Papercuts - "Do You Really Wanna Know" Papercuts - "Do What You Will" Transmalinnia is the new Kntting Factory Records album from Oakland psych-rockers Lumerians, a band I tagged last year as in the running to become the Bay's next great [...]

Video: Yours Truly’s session with Papercuts at The Common

http://vimeo.com/19411398 Papercuts - "Do What You Will" The perfectly set tone completes the video for a new track from Papercuts, "Do You Really Wanna Know." An open warehouse space with bright wood floors, the admiring spectators with wine in hand, every element of the scene is natural. Or is it? Yours Truly held a private party at The Common for the filming of their recent Papercuts session, providing refreshments and a warm atmosphere to their guests. I must say, it really felt as if we were part of the creative process. Attentively listening to tracks from Papercuts' upcoming Sub Pop [...]

Mixtape: Surveying the Indie Pop Renaissance (Podcast #241)

Mixtape: Surveying the Indie Pop Renaissance (Podcast #241) We love psych rock, garage, folk rock, singer-songwriter stuff, and a variety of other musical genres here at The Bay Bridged, but our first love was, and will forever be, indie pop. From the jangly to the synthy, an uber-catchy, clever pop song is something to be treasured. After what felt like a few slightly lean years for the genre (from our perspective, anyway), we're now in the midst of a real fertile time for great indie pop. This month's mixtape collects over an hour's worth of great new and recent indie [...]

Video & Photos: Farewell to Casiotone for the Painfully Alone (1997-2010)

http://vimeo.com/17546272 It starts and ends here in San Francisco for Casiotone for the Painfully Alone, the musical diary of Owen Ashworth which closed its covers this Sunday evening at Bottom of the Hill. What started as a simpler venture into electronic pop and nostalgic imagery, the early songs referencing San Francisco's beloved bars and transit systems, matured and moved as Owen did geographically. Though he's resided in Chicago for some years now, Ashworth concluded the project where it started on its thirteenth anniversary (first show ever was in 1997), and not onstage alone, but with friends. The Donkeys were his [...]
