Pang release new EP, ‘Young Professionals’

After releasing a truly superb single dubbed "Attention Deficit" all the way back in 2012, Pang is coming back with a 5-song EP called Young Professionals on Grazer Records. The Oakland-based girl band maintains post punk and '77-style punk sensibilities. On Young Professionals, the band keeps with a cool sense of composure, paired with a gnawing sense of urgency. Case in point: The song (and namesake of the EP) "Young Professionals". Documenting the struggles of being a 9-to-5er, the song's calling card is its bouncy bass line punctuated with exuberant screams. Pang will be playing their record release show [...]

Review/Photos: Parquet Courts, Cocktails, Pang @ Rickshaw Stop, 6/7/13

Rickshaw Stop packed in a full house on Friday night, cutting off the line just as I was able to weasel my way into the madness. I suspect almost everyone was there for Parquet Courts, who, for the most part, lived up to the hype. Local openers Pang hit the stage just after 9:30, performing a brief set of punk-infused garage rock songs. The all-female quartet actually sounded a bit like Wax Idols, only much more passive. The frontwoman, who played rhythm guitar, keyboard, and vocals, announced "this is our last show," so who knows if we will be hearing [...]

Parquet Courts playing two Bay Area shows this weekend

(Photo: Ben Rayner) Brooklyn-via-Texas post-punk rockers Parquet Courts will headline two shows in the Bay Area this week as part of a U.S. tour flanked between two Texas festivals, Chaos in Tejas and Austin City Limits. The band will perform with San Francisco's Cocktails and Pang on June 7 at Rickshaw Stop, and with Pure Bliss and Meat Market for an afternoon show on Sunday, June 9 at 1-2-3-4-Go! Records in Oakland. The young four-piece released its acclaimed proper debut LP, Light Up Gold, last year. As the follow-up to the overlooked cassette release American Specialties, Light Up Gold matches [...]

Pang – "Attention Deficit"

Oakland quartet Pang celebrates the release of the band's debut 7" tonight at The Knockout with Andy Human and Meercaz. Dig the A-side, "Attention Deficit," below. Our reviewer MBL caught them late last year and said the following: The show opened with PANG a new, local grrrrrl quartet. The guitarist kicks ass and the keyboard adds that little Stereolab-something so underutilized by our gritty garage scene. I anticipate many nights with Pang, and like Tequila, I do believe they will age well. Check out “Attention Deficit” on Bandcamp, like them on facebook, and see them whenever possible!

Review & Photos: Delayed Thanksgivings with Greg Ashley, Pang @ The Night Light, 11/23/12

I am thankful for Sex. I am thankful for Tequila. I am thankful for Greg Ashley and Pang at the Night Light. 'Twas the day after turkey. Holidays are depressing. We binge on food and alcohol like savages. We push everyone out of our way to save $19.99 on the latest toxic gizmo. We chop down trees and stick them in our "living" room to rot. We make resolutions to not make the same mistakes again next year. But then you walk into The Night Light in Jack London Square! The bar is warm and cozy and you can drink [...]
