Or, the Whale emerges from hiatus for rare, possibly last show tonight

We are splitting the bill with Victoria George and there will be some collaborations in each set. Information can be found here. In other news, after this show, the future of the band is completely up [...]

Tonight at the Rickshaw: Or, the Whale, AB & the Sea, Get Back Loretta

The Rickshaw Stop will host not just two stellar Bay Area bands and one band from San Diego on Friday, June 11th (8:30 pm, $10). The Rickshaw Stop will host one local country-rock mainstay, one relatively new surf-pop outfit, and one clever Beatles reference all at once. Or, the Whale - "Rusty Gold" AB & the Sea - "Suzie" Or, the Whale are scheduled to headline, AB & the Sea will play before, and San Diego's Get Back Loretta will open. All in all, not a bad way to spend the evening - and all ages are welcome.

Best of 2009: Broke Ass Stuart on Or, the Whale

People offer me all kinds of free shit. Seriously, if I accepted all of it I’d probably be dead of either cirrhosis or syphilis by now*. But one thing I never turn down is free music. I may not always listen to what’s given to me, but I always accept it. And this is exactly how I got my grubby little hands on Or, The Whale’s recent self titled album. Or, the Whale - "Rusty Gold" Despite having known some of the members socially for a couple years and having interviewed them a few years ago at the [...]

Thirty-Two Great San Francisco Bay Area Albums from 2009 (Part 1)

The Bay Area may not have a single unified scene, but its diverse musical communities produced a ton of acclaimed records in 2009. The following list collects thirty-two of the highlights that made this another banner year for Bay Area indie music. It's a collection that showcases the depth of Bay Area indie in 2009, and one suspects that few other regions have offered this volume of quality releases this year. A couple of qualifiers: This isn't a comprehensive list of excellent local records from 2009 or intended as any sort of official Bay Bridged "Best of" set. Plenty of [...]
