As a UC Davis alumnus, I'm always proud to promote the vibrant underground music scene in Davis, CA. Run primarily by the local college radio station KDVS 90.3FM, the city lights up every week with house shows by bands playing diverse versions of strange, noisy, alt-everything. Often very few of the students present have even heard the band — but it's still worth it to go to the show, grab a 40 oz of Miller Lite and join the ear-splitting, sweaty, living room mosh pit and then waltz outside and have a cigarette with your friends. O:RMF is hosted by the Sacramento-Davis community station KDVS 90.3 FM, from 2 to 10pm at Plainfield Station, a bar and grill off the highway a hop, skip and a jump outside of Davis (pre-sale tickets are available). Sacramento DIY celebrates O:RMF VIII on Saturday

This weekend celebrates the 8th annual Operation: Restore Maximum Freedom festival coordinated by Sacramento/Davis' community radio station, KDVS. In past years the all-day showcase has featured Thee Oh Sees, Religious Girls and Lucky Dragons. This year's wide variety includes The Mantles, Sacramento's punk band The Four Eyes and the electronic experimental performer Mom. The out-of-town band likely to turn heads is Austin's YellowFever (Austin), quaint female-led surf pop with the occasional electronic touch.
