Visit their web site at goldstar.com/thebaybridged The post first ran on KQED.org. A record label may not be a necessity for a musician in 2016, considering the remarkable ease with which anyone can record an album and put it out into the world, and its benefits may not be obvious to some, given the precarious state of the music industry as a whole. Still, amidst the sea of countless new releases every week, there's undeniable value [...]

Giveaway: OIM Volume II release at Starline Social Club
Our good friends at Oaktown Indie Mayhem have been busy lately, what with signing new bands and booking great shows. Now, they're showing off their hard work with OIM Volume II, a compilation of the best new music from OIM Records signees. As such, they're hosting two nights of album release festivities at Starline Social Club this week. The first, on Friday, features Be Calm Honcho, Sugar Candy Mountain, TV Heads, and Virgin Teeth. They may not all be local, but all have a Bay Area connection in some way. We've got two tickets to give away to this one, [...]
Foxtails Brigade releases dynamic single, “Nun But The Lost”
Ever since my happenstance encounter with Oakland's Foxtails Brigade at Awaken Café a few months ago, I have been a big fan. Today the unconventional indie-pop band releases their second single, "Nun But The Lost" off their upcoming self-titled LP, set to release April via OIM Records (U.S.) and Rallye Label (Japan). Guitarist and keyboardist Anton Patzner (Judgement Day, Bright Eyes) commented on the dynamic single and said, "When [lead singer] Laura first played me her guitar part for 'Nun But The Lost' I knew we were in for a challenge. The song is totally crazy and changes keys 15 times; [...]
Listen to French Cassettes and Waterstrider’s contributions to OIM Records’ Vol. 1 compilation
OIM Records, Vol. 1 As we told you a couple weeks ago, Oakland booker and promoter Sarah Sexton, musician Angelica Tavella, and producer Jeff Saltzman recently joined forces to create OIM Records, and the newest independent label in the Bay is dropping its debut compilation on June 23. Now, following on the heals of the comp's first single (Yassout Benedict's "YoungBlood"), two more tracks are now streaming for your listening pleasure. French Cassettes’ "Right Talk", a b-side from their excellent LP Gold Youth, is a pop gem with earnest lyrics that will have you singing along in no time. Waterstrider’s [...]
Q&A: The OIM Records Team
OIM Records Vol. I artists (credit: Odell Hussey Photography) You may have seen the name Oaktown Indie Mayhem around this blog and others. The brainchild of Sarah Sexton, a producer and promoter from the other side of the Bay, OIM has been an instrumental force in cultivating, expanding, and generally living and breathing the Oakland music scene, which, though just as rich, sometimes plays second fiddle to that of its next-door neighbor San Francisco. Now, they've expanded into OIM Records, a new label dedicated to cultivating, expanding, and generally living and breathing Oakland artists. With a new compilation on the [...]
