Odd Nosdam – "T r i s h"

Anticon mainstay Odd Nosdam's latest, T R I S H, is a tribute to Broadcast's late singer Trish Keenan, and it comes out on Nosdam's own Burnco Recs on September 24. The collection, which draws from material intended originally for an aborted LP, features contributions by Jel, Bre'r and Grouper's Liz Harris. https://soundcloud.com/odd-nosdam/t-r-i-s-h

Mixtape: Bay Area Artists, Remixing and Remixed (Podcast #304)

Mixtape: Bay Area Artists, Remixing and Remixed (Podcast #304) All too frequently, remixes are just okay, but when they are great, they're really something special. A truly great remix can shed new light on the original artist's work and stand on its own as a unique creation. That's no easy feat, either, given the tension between staying true to an original song's components and a reworker's desire to create something new and personal. These days, it feels far too easy to get remix fatigue. Reworkings seem to pop up almost immediately after original songs are released, and they can come [...]

Black Moth Super Rainbow – "Windshield Smasher (Odd Nosdam Remix)"

From Black Moth Super Rainbow's Windshield Smasher EP, out yesterday, here's Odd Nosdam's remix of the title track. Compared to the original, Nosdam's take is slowed-down, with a head-nodding beat. Instead of the weird karaoke-lie effect created by a lot of remixes -- where the original components and the new elements feel like they never actually congealed -- this one could pass as an original work, and a good one at that. Check out BMSR's version below.

Jel, Odd Nosdam play Haiti benefit Tuesday @ BOTH

Jel - "All Around" With all of the other earthquakes that have been shaking the rest of the world lately, attention to the devastating Haiti quake seems to have gone by the wayside. The folks at SOIL are working to turn this around, however, by putting together a benefit for Haitian relief at Bottom of the Hill on Tuesday, April 13th. SOIL stands for Sustainable Organic Integrated Livelihoods, and the organization is "dedicated to protecting soil resources, empowering communities and transforming wastes into resources in Haiti." Their Tuesday benefit show will feature Anticon locals Jel (also of Themselves) [...]

Themselves + Odd Nosdam deliver a glitchy energy @ BotH 8/1

The Odd Nosdam/Themselves show last Saturday at Bottom of the Hill was an awesome blend of ambient tunes and hip hop. Local artist Bre'r led the crowd easily into Odd Nosdam's set with spaced out, almost drone-like beats. Odd Nosdam's set was all distorted rhythm, repetitious breaks and bass heavy enough to disrupt bodily functions.  As Jel joined in for the second half of Odd's sonic acrobatics, things sounded more frenetic. Nosdam was all soundscapes and obscured samples, no spectacle and no frills. Themselves - "Rapping 4 Money Feat. Why?, cLOUDDEAD" Themselves represent the flipside of Jel's solo music. The [...]

Best of 2008: Jon Bernson of Ray’s Vast Basement & Window Twins on Odd Nosdam’s Pretty Swell Explode

In the future, it will become known that David Madson spent the better part of his life on a hijacked Soviet probe, transmitting 3D images back to Earth. When the news drops, his panoramic soundscapes and hazy holograms will be seen in a different light. School children will study his distorted close-ups of the sun, black drum holes and time lost tones. They will thank Odd Nosdam, who spent much of his life assembling Madson's rich body of work. Nosdam will be respected for keeping secrets secret and for spreading rare information to those in need. There will be a [...]
