CHVRCHES (photo: Norm deVeyra) The annual holiday mini-rock festival of the Bay Area, Live 105's Not So Silent Night 2018, made another great showing at SAP Center to an enthusiastic crowd ready to celebrate the season. The lineup was stellar as always, including many who have performed the festival multiple times over the years, including headliners Florence and the Machine, Death Cab for Cutie, CHVRCHES, Bastille, the Struts, and a few others. We were lucky to have photographer Norm deVeyra at the show to capture the wonderful gallery below of all the bands from the night's festivities. If you were there [...]

Phantogram (photo: SarahJayn Kemp) Live 105's annual Christmas rock show celebration Not So Silent Night was another astounding success, filling Oakland's Oracle Arena with a lot of the stadium rock stars from the turn of the millenium and plenty of other recent acts easily climbing their way to fame. You can check out reviews of each night here and here. Our photograph SarahJayn Kemp was in attendance both nights and has this excellent selection of photos from the event all in the galleries below for your enjoyment, including Green Day, blink-182, Empire of the Sun, Jimmy Eat World, The Head and [...]
Photos + Review: Green Day breathe life into Night 2 of Not So Silent Night
Green Day (photo: SarahJayn Kemp) The final night of Live 105’s Not So Silent Night was a packed event with supporting acts Day Wave, K. Flay, Phantogram, The Head and the Heart, and Bastille priming the audience for headlining band, Green Day. Though all opening bands played enthusiastic sets in which they managed to sound just as good as their albums, local boys Day Wave were the only real reminder as to why live music is everything. They didn’t sound like a recording — they sounded alive. Moody and melodramatic, their sound hearkens back to an era before autotune and family-band [...]
Blink-182 close out Night 1 of Live 105’s Not So Silent Night
blink-182 (photo: SarahJayn Kemp) The Blink-182 Greatest Hits CD was the first album I ever purchased on my own. I downloaded the LP from the iTunes Store after my sister took me to their massive reunion tour in 2009. It was my first concert — a lengthy four-band amphitheater affair filled with soaring mall-pop harmonies and plenty of dick jokes — and in the days following I held onto the memory of it feverishly. I spent this time learning as much of Blink’s catalog on guitar as I could, and then later ripped my public library’s copies of the band’s most [...]

How To Dress Well (photo: Estefany Gonzalez) Live 105 Club Not So Silent Night offered an intimate night of music in comparison to its sister festival Not So Silent Night at the Oakland Oracle Arena, on Thursday, December 10. The 21-and-over event featured a top-notch list of up and coming artist at San Franciso's own Mezzanine. The Line-up included a DJ set by Live 105's Aaron Axelsen, indie tunes from Sundara Karma, dance music by How To Dress Well and soulful anthems courtesy of Bishop Briggs.
Pop Disaster redux: Blink 182 and Green Day to host Not So Silent Night in Oakland
On Friday December 9 and Saturday December 10, Oakland's Oracle Arena will transform from the home of champion basketball teams and pit stop of acts such as the late and great Prince into a slice of vintage Warped Tour. The two-night trip down memory lane is this year's Not So Silent Night, and is painfully reminiscent of the Pop Disaster Tour of 2002. The current trend of the revitalization of pop-punk will come to a head as SoCal phenoms blink-182 team up with the grandaddy pop-punks, the Bay Area's own Green Day as hosts. Blink-182 leads off, headlining on Friday, while Green Day [...]
