NOBUNNY returns to Oakland on Oct. 22 to spread his terrifying love

If you've never heard of Nobunny or seen his face, then you might be a little terrified of the bunny-masked man above. Don't be terrified, or at most don't let your fear of bunnys make you overlook Nobunny. Nobunny would never hurt you. Nobunny loves you. Look below for proof: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-YWnmVgHGY In all honesty, I never noticed how the mask is slightly terrifying because Nobunny's music has always been the opposite to me. At first, I got into his music, then I saw him live in Oakland in 2011, and that changed everything. I was not terrified at all - [...]

Nobunny, Cyclops, & more to play Knockout extravaganza

As April 20 steadily approaches, one has many options as to what they might do on such a date (and holiday related to an illegal substance or something). So as you're forced to make a choice as to what you might do, consider this: Masked rabbit man Nobunny is playing an early show at the Knockout in San Francisco with the likes of the one-eyed garage punk duo Cyclops, Pookie & the Poodlez, and power pop bands Primitive Hearts and So What. This will be Cyclops' last show before they embark on their European tour. The duo, comprised of Tina [...]

The Total Trash Halloween Bash kicks off Thursday night at the Stork Club with a evening of covers from NOBUNNY (as Bo Diddley), Shannon and The Clams (as Los Saicos), among others, and the party continues through the weekend with two nights featuring The Sonics and a closing gig headlined by together PANGEA. Review & Photos: Three Days of 1-2-3-4 Go Records' Go! Go! @ The New Parish, 5/16-5/18/13

Emily's Army began submitting recordings to 1-2-3-4 Go! about four years ago, when most members were 13. I could have fathered them. It helped that the guy to my right could be their grandfather (and he was sporting a dog collar). It's a little uncomfortable how great they are. It is frightening to think what they could be doing in a few years. My only fatherly advice: notch down the Green Day, study Sandinista, and stay away from my daughters. Check them out June 8th at Oakland's Uptown with Meat Market! Get their record Lost at Seventeen as soon as [...]

Review & Photos: Total Trash 2012, Day 1 @ The New Parish, 10/26/12

Total Trash, how I missed thee. All ages shows are getting harder to come by. There are many theories on this. Shannon and her Clams delivered the full Misfits catalog and the fans lapped it up. Nobunny hopped through a set of Halloween classics that woulda made any KALX DJ proud. Yes to "Monster Mash" and "Purple People Eater" but also Roky Erikson's "2 Headed Dog," The Cramps' "Goo Goo Muck" and favorites of Lux and Ivy like "The Crusher." For "Ghostbusters," Señor Nobunny brought out an all star crew of back up singers including a lamb-chopped Shannon Shaw and [...]

Total Trash Halloween Bash adds third night: Coachwhips, Guantanamo Baywatch, more at Oakland's Lobot Gallery

If (like me) you missed out on tickets to The Coachwhips' sold out show (Saturday, October 27th at the Verdi Club), listen up! A second Coachwhips show has been added!!! It will take place on Sunday, October 28th at Oakland's edgy Lobot Gallery. Before there were Thee Oh Sees, there were The Coachwhips. John Dwyer's frantic guitar and vocals were every bit as tasty. The band was deeper in the garage as this was the early part of the Millennium, a primordial version of Thee Oh Sees, more raw and beautifully sloppy. The band formed in 2001 and was gone [...]
