Xander Harris, Some Ember, Muscle Drum performing at The Night Light, 6/13/13

The Night Light in Oakland has some cool events coming up this week. First and foremost, Moon Glyph is welcoming Austin's Xander Harris for a headlining gig on Thursday, June 13. East Bay alumni Some Ember will support the show with San Francisco's Muscle Drum for a night of dark synth music. Self-described "grave wave EBM" producer Xander Harris (a.k.a. Justin Sweatt) hails from Austin, where he has been producing dark electronic music since 2009. His style draws heavy inspiration from Giallo horror films (think Dario Argento's Suspiria), as well as early industrial music and dance-floor techno. His 2010 debut [...]

The Sandwitches play Brick & Mortar on Thursday, April 12th

Everyone’s favorite spooky songstresses, The Sandwitches, will play at the Brick & Mortar Music Hall on Thursday, April 12th, with Deep Time (Yellow Fever) and Muscle Drum (Rob Spector from Bronze). If you’re not familiar with their bewitching, old-timey, falsetto-speckled sound, where lovelorn americana meets garage, it would behoove you to check out their two excellent LPs—2009’s How to Make Ambient Sadcake and last year’s Mrs. Jones’ Cookies—before getting to the show. Or at least listen to the A-side from their latest offering, The Pearl 7-inch, which exemplifies the trio's sad/experimental bent, below. Now buy tickets, which are $10, here, [...]

Muscle Drum (Bronze’s Robert Spector) releases ‘Fog Hag’ LP

Muscle Drum - "Compromise" New SF label Break Up recently released the first LP from Muscle Drum, the solo home recording project of Bronze's Robert Spector. Spector's demos had previously been circulated on CD-Rs, and this LP collects a set of hazy synth-pop songs that periodically calls to mind Ariel Pink's early works. Fog Hag by break-up Muscle Drum performs at Saint John the Evangelist (15th St. between Mission and Valencia) on October 30th (6-9:30pm, $8-20 suggested donation, all ages) with Group Rhoda and Primary Structures. There will also be a showcase of Day of the Dead altars by nine [...]
