Mixtape: 2015 Highlights from San Francisco Bay Area Indie Music

http://media.libsyn.com/media/thebaybridged/2015_Highlights_Mix.mp3 Download: Mixtape: 2015 Highlights from San Francisco Bay Area Indie Music (Podcast #377) At The Bay Bridged, we always bristle a little at the prospect of attempting to sum up a full year of the local independent music scene in a single retrospective podcast mixtape. Such a challenge is especially difficult in a place like the Bay Area, where year in, year out, a wide variety of talented local musicians release compelling and impressive albums, a great many of which gain acclaim well beyond the Bay's borders. Instead of trying to identify some objective list of the "ten best" [...]

Interview: Monster Rally & Jay Stone on Foreign Pedestrians

As we told you last week, we're excited to join forces with the former Oakland (and now Boston-based) Gold Robot Records to present the release show for the fantastic new 12" from LA's Monster Rally & Oakland's Jay Stone: Foreign Pedestrians. The album features Jay Stone on all A-side tracks and instrumental versions of the same tracks on the B-Side, creating a concept that rewards frequent listens. Jay's rhythmic and melodic flows mesh seamlessly with the tropical rhythms on the A-side, but flipping over to the instrumentals reveals nuances, colors, and moods in the beats that you might have missed. [...]

Best of the Rest, 11/21/2014 (Sonny & the Sunsets, Six Organs of Admittance, and more!)

Sonny & the Sunsets (Photo: Alice Shaw) It’s time for our roundup of all those highlights from the last few weeks that we weren’t able to feature on their own – here’s the best of the rest, as determined by The Bay Bridged editors. Longtime local favs Sonny & the Sunsets announced a new album Talent Night at the Ashram, out February 17 on Polyvinyl. The album was originally a film project about society's fringe characters – several short films that formed a feature-length movie when viewed sequentially. While writing the scripts and even hiring actors and shooting clips, frontman [...]

Monster Rally & Jay Stone share “Cognac,” LP on the way

LA instrumental hip-hop producer Monster Rally has teamed up with Oakland MC's Jay Stone and Brandon Rayson on the track "Cognac", and let's just say this collaboration has me hooked. "Cognac" the first track of a collaborative LP from Jay and Monster Rally, Foreign Pedestrians, set for release January 27 on Gold Robot Records. Monster Rally, aka Ted Feighan, has released several albums on Gold Robot to a decent amount of attention and success, while Jay Stone is a relative unknown, (although hopefully not to our readers). The two were introduced by Gold Robot Records founder Hunter Mack, who says [...]

Monster Rally, Steezy Ray Vibes play ProFans showcase at Brick & Mortar

This Sunday, June 23, our friends at Professional Fans will bring their fifth and, in my opinion, finest showcase (so far) to Brick & Mortar Music Hall. LA-via-Columbus sample champion Monster Rally will headline the evening in what will be his San Francisco debut, which will also feature the live debut of Dan Casey's acoustic solo project formerly known as Steezy Ray Vibes, plus sets from local acts Shortcircles and duckyousucker. Berkeley-via-Jersey musician Dan Casey has already carved out a name for himself with his experimental electronic pop beats as Yalls, and is now taking a more acoustic approach to [...]

Live This Month: June 2013 — an audio guide through SF concerts this month (Podcast #307) In Live This Month, we sample some of the great local and out-of-town bands performing in the coming month in the San Francisco Bay Area. A whole slew of great Bay Area bands are celebrating the release of new albums this month, and we've included songs from a number of them in this episode. As we say in the show, The Mantles have long been one of our favorite local bands, and early cuts from Long Enough To Leave indicate it's another winner from [...]

Monster Rally's 'Beyond the Sea' LP out now on Gold Robot Records

Monster Rally is the sample-based exotica project of Ohio collage artist Ted Feighan, whose latest album Beyond the Sea is out now on Oakland's Gold Robot Records. The album builds upon the sound of Monster Rally's full-length debut Coral, with more melodic structure and artistic focus. There are a very limited number of LPs left for sale, all pressed on lava red vinyl. Beyond the Sea LP by Monster Rally Monster Rally's brand new non-album single "Strange Creeper" is a vivid, four part instrumental movement, with distant sample loops carrying you into the unknown. Additionally, he recently participated in an [...]
