Two-for-One Review & Photos: Mist and Mast, Fine Steps @ Make-Out Room; Bootcuts, Harkenbacks @ Plough and Stars, 1/6/12

Mist and Mast - "Getting Out Soon" The Make Out Room sits in the center of a hot scene - Cafe's Lolo and Revolution and a mini-park across the street and all - and yet it operates in relative quiet and on its own terms. One such example - the happy hour show. For whatever reasons, the management often splits the evening between live music early and DJ sets later- the music afficionado's penchant to still be napping or eating before 9:30 be damned. And so, with two bands I very much wanted to hear at the Plough and Stars [...]

Review & Photos: Radar Brothers, Man/Miracle, Mist and Mast @ Rickshaw Stop 6/24/10

I ended up at Dan Sung Sa again, a rare late night eatery in Oakland, and a new personal fave. They are open evenings only from 6pm-2am. The walls are plastered with vintage Korean movie posters and most of the seats are in cute little curtained booths. If you find yourself in Oakland after midnight, check them out at 2775 Telegraph. The spicy pork is delicious. The menu is extensive and includes chicken gizzards, snail salad and yogurt soju! Just prior, LA based Radar Brothers played the Rickshaw Stop (for the very first time). The crowd was small but the [...]

Loquat CD Release Saturday at BOTH

San Francisco's indie electro band Loquat will belatedly celebrate the release of their CD Secrets of the Sea this Saturday at Bottom of the Hill with The Frail and Mist and Mast. The album was released on Talking House Records. Loquat - "Harder Hit" Both Loquat and The Frail played this year's Treasure Island Music Festival (you can see Loquat's pirate-y photo booth fun above) and they both rocked the house. Many of the songs from the new album were featured in Loquat's performance. The prog guitars and electro beats compliment vocalist Kylee Swenson's powerful vocals well, and [...]
