Mariee Sioux to debut ‘Grief in Exile’ in Bolinas
(photo: Aubrey Trinnaman) Mariee Sioux, whose folk songs are interwoven with haunting flutes and intricate guitar work, releases her latest album, Grief in Exile, on Night Bloom Records on June 7. The album is an emotional, personal telling of how different plant medicine ceremonies helped her through her struggles with depression and alcoholism. Exile shows the singer-songwriter’s maturation and sophistication over the years and is an absolutely beautiful collection of songs. She just released the video for the single "Baby Wave" off Exile. Review: Mazzy Star, The Entrance Band, Mariee Sioux @ The Warfield
Mazzy Star (Photo: Jason Persse) The Warfield enforced a strict "no photography" rule last Wednesday night, as per the request of highly anticipated headliner Mazzy Star. It was an understandable request, given the band's choice of remarkably dim lighting. A flash would have been necessary, and in turn would kill the mood. Soft-spoken singer-songwriter Mariee Sioux started the evening with a set of four or five long-form folk songs.
