http://media.libsyn.com/media/thebaybridged/2014_Highlights_Mix.mp3 Download: Mixtape: 2014 San Francisco Bay Area Musical Highlights (Podcast #353) In 2014, Bay Area artists released a wealth of great records, with highlights coming in an array of genres: garage pop, indie rock, electronic pop, and hip hop. The year brought new acclaim to ascendant locals like tUnE-yArDs and Tycho, the latter of whom just released a deluxe version of his stellar 2014 album, Awake. Also on the rise are The Family Crest, who grabbed well-deserved NPR attention for the band's sophomore LP, Beneath the Brine. It was a year of impressive debuts: Cathedrals built a strong following [...]

Interview: Luke Sweeney takes Adventure:Us to Rickshaw Stop

Luke Sweeney has built his name around the San Francisco Bay Area as a rock 'n' roll sweetheart since his move from VOWS & Montra to his own solo project and coveted release of Ether Ore, his solo debut, in 2013. Ether Ore, a dreamy, singer-songwriter release that was stripped-down and bare boned, came with critical acclaim and a number of possibilities and expectations for Sweeney. His new album, Adventure:Us, which was produced by Robin MacMillan in 2014, takes Sweeney in a whole new direction, and into a more garage, rock 'n' roll, and psychedelic sound. From the pop anthem that is "Doin' [...]

It's great to see Outside Lands continue to soar. Now when do we start talking about extending it to a second weekend? OSL is the biggest, but it [...]

Luke Sweeney releases “Doin’ It To You”

San Francisco sweetheart Luke Sweeney has been slowly building up the anticipation for his full-length release, Adventure:Us with numerous singles and videos. The most recent addition? "Doin' It To You," which Sweeney just released this past week. "Doin' It To You" is '50s love song-reminiscent - the same stuff you hear played under rays of summer sun (although maybe not in San Francisco). The song contains a doo-wop-styled guitar riff, a blend of smooth, uplifting vocals from Sweeney, and a lively melody. It's hard not to get caught in the soft rhythm. It's a ballad of simple proportions, with straightforward [...]

Luke Sweeney, Bay Area garage pop sweetheart, is at it again. This time, with his new video for "Miss Me?" which is set for release on his upcoming full length Adventure:Us in August. The video was written & directed by Sweeney, filmed by Emily Sevin, and edited by Neal Jonas. The fun and quirky video begins as a story of Sweeney trying to impress a girl he met one night on the beach, and then follows his pursuit to try out for bands in order to get her attention. Of course, it wouldn't be the tell-tale love story without it taking a couple [...]

Listen to Luke Sweeney’s new album before it’s even out

Luke Sweeney is hosting an advance listening party for his new record Adventure:Us tonight at Vacation, the clothing store/art gallery in the Tenderloin that has been hosting quite a few cool shows lately. The listening party will feature complimentary cocktails and free food, but best of all, a live performance by Sweeney and his band (sometimes known as Wet Dreams Dry Magic) playing songs from the album. Unbeknownst to many, Luke is a tambourine virtuoso. But things did not go so well when he tried out recently for indie darlings Social Studies... That video is part of Luke's [...]
