Visit their web site at In Live This Month, we sample some of the great local and out-of-town bands performing in the coming month in the San Francisco Bay Area. We always include a healthy amount of new and emerging bands in these episodes, but this month's mix also includes a handful of reunions. While the founders of P.S. Eliot, Katie and Allison Crutchfield, are now occupied with Waxahatchee and Swearin', the sisters have reunited their early band for a series of [...]

Loquat return with 'We Could Be Arsonists'; album release show 4/27/12 (ticket giveaway!)

The folks of Loquat are no stranger to the Bay Area music scene. The band's albums date back to 2003, and they performed one of the coveted local opener spots at the Treasure Island Music Festival back in 2008. And while Loquat have been laying low since then (the band's last album, Secrets of the Sea, came out in 2008), they've returned full-force, fresh off a stint at SXSW with a new album in tow. We Could Be Arsonists is out now via Nacional Records, and is full of the catchy, synth-filled tracks that we've come to expect from the [...]

A plethora of Halloween shows

It feels like there are a ton of great Halloween live music options this year. Here are a few of the highlights: - LoveLikeFire and Loquat at Bottom of the Hill. Two quality indie pop bands and a bunch of DJs add up to a good night. - Looking for covers? Most of Citay will be at Amnesia, performing as "Bob Saggath". Unclear if there will be Full House-related costumes, but there will be Sabbath covers. - The always-reliable Wallpaper. plays at the Mezzanine. "Holla-Ween" also includes a $1,000 dollar costume contest. Wallpaper. - "I Got Soul, I'm [...]

Media Monday: Loquat, Dodos, Port O’Brien, Why?, John Vanderslice

Collecting some of the various media released by Bay Area bands recently, there's good stuff here from some of the Bay's best: Loquat have a brand new video for "Big Key, Little Door," from last year's Secrets of the Sea. Loquat - "Big Key, Little Door" The Dodos just released the first video from their latest album. Check out "Fables" below. The Dodos - "Fables" It's no slight to the Bodega Girls that their remix of Port O'Brien's "My Will Is Good" doesn't match the addictiveness of the original song. The remix does, however, take the song to dancier terrain. [...]

Loquat Giveaway Responses – What pie do you like?

Last week we ran our first of two Loquat features and giveaways (next one published next Friday!) for their month long residency at Cafe du Nord which began last night. For that giveaway we asked our loyal readers to answer the following question: What is the best fruit to be made into a pie? Support your answer with up to 500 words. (Please don't waste your time with 500 words. After all, these are drawn at random. Particularly ridiculous answers, however, may end up on our Twitter.) Now even though we draw the winners at random, we enjoy asking questions [...]
