Mixtape: Twelve Bay Area Highlights from 2011 (Podcast #263)

Mixtape: Twelve Bay Area Highlights from 2011 (Podcast #263) We might be biased, but, from this vantage point, 2011 reconfirmed that the Bay Area continues to have the most vibrant music community nationwide. The SF scene cranked out a ton of amazing albums this year, and our final podcast of 2011 highlights twelve great releases from Bay Area artists over the past twelve months. This isn't a "Best of" list per se, but these acts did create some of our favorite music in 2011. We'll be doing more year-in-review coverage over the next few weeks, but, for now, enjoy this [...]

Photos & Recap: Regional Bias 2011 with Royal Baths, Little Wings, White Cloud, Sea of Bees

Regional Bias 2011 took place Saturday night, and we couldn't be happier with how it turned out. All four bands ruled, with the only bittersweet element being the knowledge that Royal Baths' electrified high-point-among-high-points set was their last in SF for the foreseeable future. If you came, thank you for your support! If you missed it, catch up with this photo set from Nicole Browner, Anna Gazdowicz, and Todd Wanerman. Thanks again to everyone involved in RB 2011: To our performers, Little Wings, Royal Baths, White Cloud, and Sea of Bees. To our DJs, Peter Arko, Joe Hayes, and Kevin [...]

The new tape is out now on Gnome Life Records. Says the label: This tape is a direct transmission from the mind of Kyle Field (A.K.A. Little Wings)... brain waves reflected off a storm cloud and the nearby ocean... song droplets from Kyle and the windy mother. A chill out tape of eclectic covers, Little Wings classics remixed, a little story telling, and a fully new song [...]

Counting down to Regional Bias: Why your support is so important!

We're a little over one week away from our annual Regional Bias concert (and our fifth birthday party!), taking place on August 6th at the Verdi Club in San Francisco (7pm, $10-20, tickets on sale now!). As we've said before, even though Regional Bias is a fundraiser, our top priority is making it a really fun, special night for everyone who attends. To that end, we've got four great bands performing -- Little Wings and Royal Baths, White Cloud, and Sea of Bees -- as well as DJs, art, and more. Entertainment value aside, though, there's another reason to buy [...]

Photos: Mount Eerie, Little Wings, Key Losers, Nicholas Krgovich at Brightworks

Mount Eerie, Little Wings, Key Losers, and Nicholas Krgovich in the Mission last night was one of those shows that could not be entered with any expectations. It was a completely unknown venue (which turned out to be an upcoming free radical K-12 school, Brightworks), and featured a few completely unpredictable performers -- Mount Eerie and Little Wings -- both of whom either plan for, or spontaneously provide, the most unpredictable one-off sets. Key Losers features Katy Davidson, a longtime San Franciscan, Casiotone for the Painfully Alone collaborator and core member of Dear Nora, but it was opening act Nicholas [...]

Little Wings, Jason Lytle join Olympia vets on Japan compilation ‘Resume’

Resume's 43 contributing bands includes a handful of Olympia's noteworthy indie musicians: World Gang (feat. Jeremiah Green of Modest Mouse), LAKE, Mount Eerie, and more. For local interest, Jason Lytle (Grandaddy, Admiral Radley) and Little Wings both contribute tracks. Sealing the deal is cover art from the wonderful Olympian illustrator Nikki McClure (shown above), whose calendars [...]
