Video: Leopold and his Fiction – “Ride”

It's been a long wait for new music from SF rock band Leopold and his Fiction, as news about the band's recording sessions with Thom Monahan faded away and bandleader Daniel James became understandably occupied with Cowboy and Indian. "Ride" is a new single from the Leopold camp, and it's an equally gorgeous visual and song. It's on the mellow side of the band's sound, so it doesn't capture the trio at its most rocking, but it's a strong tease that makes us hungry for more.

Interview: Daniel James (Leopold and His Fiction) introduces us to his new band, Cowboy and Indian

Cowboy and Indian - "Ledbellies (Hurt My Pride)" Between Leopold and His Fiction and his new band Cowboy and Indian, Daniel James is a busy man, but he took some time to check in with us recently about how Cowboy and Indian got started and where it's headed. As we learn in the interview below, things are moving quickly for the folk- and early rock-influenced band, even as its overall membership and sound continue to evolve prior to the group's upcoming debut album. Cowboy and Indian are playing at the Hemlock Tavern on Sunday, February 13th with Ash Reiter. Locals [...]

Video: Cowboy and Indian – “Hurt My Pride” (new band featuring Daniel James of Leopold and His Fiction)

As if being the frontman for Leopold and His Fiction weren't enough, Daniel James has formed another project, Cowboy and Indian, with musicians Jazz Mills (T Bird and the Breaks) and Jesse Plemons (who you might recognize as Landry Clarke on Friday Night Lights). The first offering from the trio is this fun video shot in Chicago and northwest Indiana. The band expects to release its full length debut in the spring.

[podcast]http://media.libsyn.com/media/thebaybridged/SxSW_2010_Show.mp3[/podcast] In celebration of our third annual Bay Area Takeover party this Thursday, March 18th at Austin's Beauty Bar, we're dedicating this week's podcast to music from all 15 bands that will be performing at the show. Also, Nicole and Anna took over hosting duties for this episode, so enjoy that change-up before our dour monotones return next week. The editors are all heading down to Austin this week for South by Southwest, although we'll [...]

Leopold and his Fiction release ‘Golden Friends’ before hitting the road

Release dates are overrated -- and Leopold and his Fiction have compromised committing to a date by surrendering a track from their upcoming third album in time for SxSW and a national tour. "Golden Friends" will be sold as a limited edition single, available to pick up at our Bay Area Takeover Thursday, March 18 at the Beauty Bar. We've already reported on the upcoming record and their last SF performance at Cafe du Nord, but see the valiant blues-rock trio's national tour schedule after the jump. Leopold and His Fiction - "Golden Friends" 3/16/10 – Art Disaster’s [...]

Pete Bernhard, Jake Mann and the Upper Hand, Leopold and his Fiction @ Cafe du Nord 2/21

Review By: Elizabeth Maki Photos By: Nicole L. Browner Despite a rainy day, a fair crowd showed up Sunday evening for an efficiently run show at Cafe du Nord. Leopold and his Fiction opened, playing their second release, Ain't No Surprise, in its entirety. While there are suggestions of blues and country in references to broken hearts and trains, the new album rolls out a steady rock sound. Occasionally, this expansive sound eclipsed frontman Daniel James' deft storytelling and the small string section they brought for part of the set. The band's strongest point was their high-wire energy; bassist Micayla [...]

Pete Bernhard (DM3), Jake Mann, Leopold @ Cafe du Nord 2/21

Where the Devil Makes Three make hyper-driven, fingerpickin' country, frontman Pete Bernhard's solo music treads a little differently. Lighter orchestral qualities mix with Bernhard's traditional ragtime style, coming together to create an endearing mix of classic Americana. His second record, Straight Line, is out now via Milan Records. Pete Bernhard - "Warning" Spending most of the past couple of years touring with DM3, Bernhard is set to play Cafe du Nord this Sunday, February 21st (8 pm, $10, 21+). Opening the show will be local favorites Leopold and His Fiction and Jake Mann and the Upper Hand. [...]
