Saturday: Summer Solstice Blowout with Legs, Yea-Ming & the Rumours and Raphi Gottesman

Who loves the sun?  The Octopus Literary Salon, silly!  Join them this Saturday from 6-10pm at Chabot Space & Science Center in Oakland.  The event will take place in the MEGADOME!  Sit back and enjoy IMAX-style imagery of the sun while listening to the best live music Oakland has to offer, with sets from Raphi Gottesman, Yea-Ming & the Rumours, and Legs. Legs return with a new album in the works and an upcoming show!

Born a duo in 2011, Oakland's Legs gradually morphed into a full band.  After a few EPs, they released Pass the Ringo in 2013.  Brooklyn Vegan loved it, and compared them to Television Personalities!  Austin Town Hall said it was #5 top album of the year!  Vice called it the "Worst Album of the Month".  Legs seemed poised for stardom!  They toured the West Coast, even opened for The Bats at the Rickshaw, and then....they disappeared.... A few weeks ago, Legs announced a new LP in the works, smooth jams even.  Legs also confirmed their first live appearance in just over a [...]

Review & Photos: The Bats, The Mantles, Legs @ Rickshaw Stop, 6/14/13

For the first time, the flag of New Zealand waved triumphantly at the Rickshaw Stop. Pass the Ringo, the debut LP from Oakland's Legs just came out in April. The band was the perfect choice to open the evening on Friday night. Guitarist Matt Bullimore is originally from New Zealand and the band creates a refreshing reinvention of the Flying Nun sound rarely heard around these parts. Male/female vocals, shimmering guitars and perfect keyboard fills. The crowd loved 'em and responded with the best dance scene of the evening. This is not just another Oakland garage band. Buy the record. [...]

Oakland's Legs release new video for "Two Colours"

Oakland's own Legs recently offered a fuzzed out, hazy, and colorfully psychedelic video for "Two Colours." The video showcases babe-ly Amelia Adams, who contributes vocals alongside Jeffrey Harland; Harland and New Zealand native Matt Bullimore are the original members of Legs, who have watched their band grow from two to five members. In "Two Colours," one minute you're watching Adams sing forlorn lyrics, and the next, a burst of confetti explodes behind her and the rest of Legs emerges, ripping through the song. "Two Colours" starts with a heavy bang, but simmers and fades slowly into a mellow groove of [...]

Legs – "Two Colours"

Legs have come a long way since their formation in early 2011 - the once duo band, consisting of Jeffrey Harland and Matt Bullimore, has expanded to include five members. Now two years later, the band is gearing up to release their debut LP Pass The Ringo in late April, with a record release party planned at the Night Light in Legs’ Oakland hometown. Though the band is kicking off their first record at a small club, Legs’ sunny, cathedral-filling sound seems meant for a bigger stage. Mixing jangle pop with steadily played instrumentals and vocalist Amelia Adams’ darker, echoing [...]

Legs – "Don't Say a Word"/"Shades of Grey"

Legs, a duo from Oakland, recently released their second EP entitled s/t. Legs is comprised of Matt Bullimore and Jeffrey Harland, who were both members of The Dashing Suns. The duo has been "Legs" since January 2011, and have zeroed in on a big, muddy, sweeping sound that is a bit of a departure from their sunny, more poppy work with The Dashing Suns. Legs is one of the few bands who I would love to see in an arena or on a massive festival stage - their echoing walls of sound were simply made for big spaces. Check out [...]
