L.A. Witch (photo: Estefany Gonzalez) Celebrating the release of their debut album and signing with Suicide Squeeze Records,  L.A. Witch cast a spell on fans at The Independent on June 23. The Los Angeles trio's melodic sound seemed to draw listeners closer and closer to the stage as the band's set progressed, almost as though the members were sirens drawing fishermen toward their soulful rhythms and ghostly vocals. From hazy '70s inspired guitar riffs reminiscent of Black Sabbath and stage swagger to rival that of Joan Jett, the band performed a set you didn't want to miss. Preview: The Abigails, L.A. Witch + more at Brick and Mortar tonight

(flier by Ben Tipton) Acting as a sort of liaison between the Los Angeles garage scene and San Francisco, Hellbent Booking has curated another bill of bluesy, '60s-inspired rock acts that hearken back to a time in the early aughts when the Bay was synonymous with the genre. The Abigails craft an upbeat sort of stompy vaudeville while L.A. Witch and CG Roxanne stick closer to the style thats come to be associated with the Lolipop and Burger Records 'sound.'
