Burger Boogaloo adds to lineup, offers Valentine’s Day Sale

It's hard to believe that Oakland's Burger Boogaloo is a decade old. The raucous, two-day festival held at Mosswood Park in Oakland is full of punk spirit, oddballs, and as always, the venerable, self-declared pope of trash himself, John Waters. Held in the middle of summer festival season, Burger Boogaloo is a welcome staple for all of its gratifying eccentricities, electrifying headliners, local food vendors, and merchants. Today, Burger Boogaloo released more names for the festival, including King Tuff, Davilla 66, and Nobunny. Additionally, in celebration of Valentine's Day, a 2-for-1 "Lover's Special" sale has been announced for one day [...]

Live This Month: July 2015 — an audio guide to upcoming SF concerts

http://media.libsyn.com/media/thebaybridged/LTM_July_2015.mp3 Download: Live This Month: July 2015 (Podcast #366) In Live This Month, we sample some of the great local and out-of-town bands performing in the coming month in the San Francisco Bay Area. While the returns of Thee Oh Sees and Ty Segall to SF this month are certainly cause for excitement, one former local we're especially psyched to see is Tamaryn, previewing songs from next month's Cranekiss over at the Rickshaw Stop. While the artist's first two LPs found her voice floating amidst atmospheric waves of guitar, her new album incorporates elements of dance-pop as well, and finds [...]

Interview: King Tuff to bring unfiltered mania to Phono del Sol 2015

King Tuff will be playing the Phono del Sol Music & Food Festival, July 11th at Potrero del Sol Park in San Francisco. Get your tickets before it's too late! It would not be totally accurate to call King Tuff wicked, and yet, something about the term seems to fit. Kyle Thomas, the man behind the persona — if you can even call the exaggerated personality a “persona” — doesn’t suggest he’s capable of any evil or vicious proclivities, but his music, particularly that on the most recent Black Moon Spell, makes you wonder: is there some darkness that Thomas [...]

Phono del Sol performer King Tuff to release live split LP with Ty Segall

We're extremely excited that King Tuff is co-headlining our fifth annual Phono del Sol Music & Food Festival this July, where he'll be joined by Tanlines, Generationals, VÉRITÉ, Sonny & The Sunsets, and many more. Tuff's a killer live performer, so much so that the Pickathon Music Festival organizers are releasing a limited edition split LP capturing 2013 festival sets from him and Ty Segall. Live At Pickathon: Ty Segall / King Tuff arrives in May, and you can listen to "She's On Fire" below. While you're jamming the song, be sure to buy your tickets to Phono del Sol [...]

Giants party! with King Tuff and La Sera at Great American Music Hall

Wednesday night, the Giants took the World Series as we crossed the Bay Bridge, and all was quiet. We passed AT&T Park, nothing... Driving up 9th street, that all changed. Baseball capped crowds streaming out of bars from every direction, screaming, chanting, fists in the air. Frightening really. Parking near Mitchell Brothers offered a small sense of security that our car would not be flipped over. Cheap fireworks blasting in all directions we hugged the row of empty shops and slid a block down to the Great American Music Hall. The Great American is our most glorious music venue. What [...]

Wavves and King Tuff play Slim's on Wednesday

Lo-fi garage rock troupe Wavves are uniting with the enigmatic King Tuff for a visit to SoMa's Slim's on Wednesday. Following the release of this year's Afraid of Heights (which dropped March 26 via Mom + Pop), Wavves has got the California sound down. Though they initially began as a product of boredom and ballsy brashness, Wavves broke onto the pop punk scene to become the perpetually blazed, rambunctious sons the West Coast loves. And who else is better suited to complement the gnarly delirium of Wavves than the weird and wicked King Tuff? Since the reissue of Tuffy's 2008 debut Was [...]

Live This Month: August 2013 — an audio guide through SF concerts this month (Podcast #311) In Live This Month, we sample some of the great local and out-of-town bands performing in the coming month in the San Francisco Bay Area. You can't talk about Bay Area concerts in August without acknowledging the biggest of them all, the Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival, which returns to Golden Gate Park from August 9-11. The festival is sold out, and with good reason: the lineup offers everything from Paul McCartney and Nine Inch Nails to King Tuff and local bands like [...]

Fuck You 2012

Has there been a shittier year than 2012? I can't think of one. Fuck you 2012! What a complete waste of time. Really we should strike it from the calendar. We could call it 2011b or something. With that said, here are a few redeeming qualities from the year that should not be named: 2012 did grant me my first chance to see a show at the Henry Miller Library in Big Sur. Oh Big Sur, I love you. Oh Flaming Lips, thank you for bringing me back to Big Sur (and the show at Bimbo's in February was pretty [...]
