Honeycomb @ Chasing the Moon

[media id=35 width=530 height=300] Emily Ritz and Honeycomb are one of our favorite new bands in the San Francisco music scene. Miss Ritz, a self taught musician, brings a unique finger style and odd meters to her ukulele playing. In less than a year, Honeycomb has become a true collaboration, now living together in their outer mission hive. Look out for performances from several familiar Chasing The Moon alumni: including Andrew Maguire’s fierce percussion playing, and Kacey Johansing’s sweet vocals tempering Emily’s feral lead. Chasing the Moon releases new episodes about once a month. To be notified of future episodes [...]

Review: Kacey Johansing’s album release show, 5/19 at the Rickshaw Stop

Kacey Johansing - "Oh, Brother" On Wednesday 5/19/2010, the Rickshaw Stop hosted a night of bands coming together to toast San Francisco singer/songwriter Kacey Johansing and the release of her debut album, Many Seasons. The evening's openers, The Range of Light Wilderness, brought intelligent garage pop with a good amount of laconic feeling. The band is made up of a bass player, drummer, and guitarist, all of whom share vocal duty. They use three-part harmonies and elevating repetition to create what sounds like Philip Glass’ garage band - if he had one, that is. The vibe was chill and their sound [...]

Kacey Johansing (Podcast #213)

[podcast]http://media.libsyn.com/media/thebaybridged/Kacey_Johansing_Show.mp3[/podcast] This week's podcast spotlights the very talented Kacey Johansing, whose debut album, Many Seasons, comes out next month on Porto Franco Records. Kacey's been involved in a bunch of different local projects over the past few years; she was in Geographer for a period of time, she's played with The Blank Tapes, and, lately, she's been a member of Honeycomb. Many Seasons contains elements of folk and rock akin to those bands, but it's more principally a gorgeous acoustic pop album, with the multi-instrumentalist's great voice supported by layers of piano, guitar and strings. This time, it's Kacey's friends [...]

New local show series: SanFolk Disco IV Thursday

We're pleased to report on yet another new regular show series making San Francisco a happening place, SanFolk Disco. They're holding their fourth event Thursday, with Bart Davenport, JL Stiles and Kacey Johansing at Cafe du Nord (8:30pm, $12). According to the organizers, SanFolk Disco's mission is: "[SanFolk Disco] aims to mix three interesting on-the-rise Bay Area artists every month at a different venue in the city. The music will be only slightly rooted in any particular genre and uses the term folk to mean more 'music of the people,' than man with sandals and a woolen hat, call it [...]
