John Vanderslice (photo: Ian Young) It was a celebration of Bay Area music on Sunday night when the man at the center of so much of it, John Vanderslice, celebrated the release of his latest album The Cedars by playing a show at the Rickshaw Stop. Exciting up-and-comer Meernaa opened the night with members of the band joining Vanderslice on stage for most of his set.

His new recording studio Tiny Telephone Oakland opened this month, and its SF counterpart continues to be a destination for indie artists. Vanderslice has also been producing albums like Into It.
