Jenny Hval releases “Female Vampire” video, announces tour

Norwegian artist Jenny Hval has released the debut single from her upcoming album. Watch the video for "Female Vampire" below, released in conjunction with Hval's North American tour announcement. Shot on an iPhone and directed by Jenny Berger Myhre, the video follows Hval and her "vampire" friends as they flock together to perform various nighttime rituals in Oslo. Presented in slow motion, the film replaces the violent imagery of vampire folklore with that of sensuous movement — with the circle of women bringing their hands and faces together to transcend the confinement of dimly lit spaces. The song itself finds [...]

Complex and Kingsize: Norway’s Jenny Hval awes diverse crowd in San Francisco

Jenny Hval (photo: Jon Bauer) I was introduced to Jenny Hval earlier this year by the first single off her Sacred Bones debut, Apocalypse, girl, and it's a beautiful, provocative examination of identity and consumerism in Western Culture. Review: Jenny Hval & Mark McGuire @ The Chapel

Portland-via-Cleveland ambient guitar player Mark McGuire and Norwegian singer Jenny Hval shared a bill at The Chapel on Wednesday night. Although the turnout was rather slim due to an unfortunate lack of promotion, both artists were very expressive in their appreciation for those who showed up. Mark McGuire performed long-form ambient guitar pieces from his new album Along the Way against a backdrop of projected visuals. The theme of the visuals varied from song to song, maintaining a hypnotic, psychedelic vibe throughout. Things got a little weird when political imagery flashed on the screen, with themes of terrorism and corruption [...]
