Live This Month: October 2018 — an audio guide to upcoming Bay Area concerts
Download: Live This Month: October 2018 (Podcast #433) In Live This Month, we sample some of the great local and out-of-town bands performing in the coming month in the San Francisco Bay Area. After a month off, Live This Month is back with a mix full of tunes that will make you want to see some concerts! This month's mix is bookended by post-punk, with the lean and atmospheric EXEK starting things off, and Wax Chattels' raw and noisy sounds wrapping the episode up. In between, we've got a wealth of new music, including recent and new-to-us songs from locals [...]
Best of the Rest – January 2015 (Mikal Cronin, Geographer, Sonny & the Sunsets, & more)
Every month, our editors hear lots of great new music, at shows around the Bay, exploring the far reaches of the Interwebs, and sifting through the veritable deluge of emails from artists and publicists around the globe hawking the latest songs and videos. While we'd love to write about everything that catches our ear, it's impossible – there's just too much good music out there. This is an attempt at rounding up the latest and greatest that we didn't have the bandwidth to cover throughout the month – the Best of the Rest for January 2015. Former son of [...]
Mixtape: Listening into San Francisco’s Recording Studios
http://media.libsyn.com/media/thebaybridged/SF_Studios_Mix.mp3 Download: Mixtape: Mixtape: Stepping Inside San Francisco's Recording Studios (Podcast #355) San Francisco's legacy of producing great music isn't just a function of supremely talented bands and inviting concert venues. Hidden behind the scenes is the Bay Area's rich array of recording studios, providing opportunities for artists, local and otherwise, to create great albums. An ideal studio isn't just a quiet room stocked with the right mixing board, microphones, and other gear. More than that, it's an environment in which musicians can elevate their songs, permanently capturing them at their best. There's a long history to a number of [...]
Howlin’ Rain shares “Big Red Moon”, announces ‘Mansion Songs’ LP
Photo: Alissa Anderson Howlin' Rain, the project of Oakland's Ethan Miller, just shared "Big Red Moon", the first single from his forthcoming LP Mansion Songs. With an a capella intro leading into a prominent slide guitar, Miller channels his inner-Seger (in a good way), making "Big Red Moon" feel like it was made for the highway. Despite the wide-open feel, Miller says the album was "brewed up in a basement studio where Chinatown, North Beach and the Financial District meet at a street corner in SF far from the concerns of album sales and marketing." You can preorder Mansion Songs [...]

Live This Month: December 2012 — an audio guide through SF concerts this month (Podcast #294)
Live This Month: December 2012 — an audio guide through SF concerts this month (Podcast #294) In Live This Month, we sample some of the great local and out-of-town bands performing in the coming month in the San Francisco Bay Area. Few new albums and winter conditions mean that there's a seasonal dip in the number of bands hitting the road and coming to town in December. A dip, however, doesn't mean that there aren't noteworthy highlights, including the return of former locals Moon Duo, whose latest LP, Circles, came out earlier this year. As luck would have it, Moon [...]
Photo Recap: The Bay Area rocks South by Southwest 2012
Two Gallants at the Google Live Lot. 03/16/12 I present to you some photos of just a few of the Bay Area bands that played SXSW this year. I'm only one man, so I called on a couple friends to contribute photos as well. But even still, there was only so wide a net we could cast. For the first time in years, for instance, I somehow managed to not catch a single Thee Oh Sees concert — but have no fear, a Spin photographer captured this amazing moment (seriously, click through, it's worth it). Gratuitous second shot of Two [...]
