Kitty Pryde, Main Attrakionz, Hottub playing #Y3K at DNA Lounge this Friday, 11/9/12

East Bay hip hop duo Main Attrakionz – fresh off their first proper full-length album Bossalinis & Fooliyones (out now on Young Ones Records) – will bring their local brand of cloud rap to DNA Lounge this Friday, November 9th for an internet-themed party dubbed "#Y3K". Listen to the Bossalinis & Fooliyones cut "Do it for the Bay", featuring DaVinci (who actually returned the favor by featuring the duo on his latest track "Cheeba"): MondreM.A.N and Squadda B will not be the main attraction of the night, however, as teenage Tumblr-rap sensation Kitty Pryde has been billed as the headliner. HOTTUB to headline San Francisco Yellow Bike Project's Upcycle Ball

The San Francisco Yellow Bike Project is throwing a party this Saturday at the Rickshaw Stop (8pm, $15-25). Actually, they're throwing a Fundraiser, Parts Drive, and Dance Party. And when they say dance party, they mean it, because they went and got Oakland's HOTTUB to headline the thing. If you don't go for the dance party, go for the fundraiser and parts drive. SFYBP is a "nonprofit, volunteer-powered community bike shop" and the Upcycle Ball is their launch party. You can get in for the low, low price of one complete bike (no bike will be turned away for not [...]

Mixtape: Only the East Bay (Podcast #247)

Mixtape: Only the East Bay (Podcast #247) This podcast episode is part mixtape and part mea culpa. Even though our name is The Bay Bridged, we periodically get people calling us out on our SF-centric coverage of Bay Area indie music. In recognition of all of the great music coming from the other side of the Bay, this mix features only East Bay artists--15 of them--spanning a wide variety of styles and sounds. The collection shows that, just like in SF, there's a diverse batch of talent in Oakland and beyond that's well worth checking out. Subscribe to The Bay [...]

Video: Hottub kills with love The previously unknown fact to take away from this nearly 10-minute documentary about Oakland's erotic hip-pop group Hottub is that the band divides its time between humping stage monitors in mismatching neon-colored clothing and paying the bills with jobs at a Verizon retail store and a public interest law office. This documentary captures the women of the band's adoration for their city, following them through the streets of Oakland to choice drug stores, delis and downtown historical venues. On the topic of Oakland's cultural revival, one of the ladies comments: "it's kind of like Oakland was on crack [...]

Audio Visual – local music meets fashion with Hottub

Audio Visual is a series exploring the fashion choices of local musicians. The Bay Area music scene is nothing but diverse, and this nonconformity is as evident in clothing as it is in music. With this in mind, Audio Visual strives to analyze the connection between the sartorial choices of musicians and their work, beginning with Oakland 's Hottub. Hottub blends DJ Sonic's old-school and funk-inspired beats with the rough-and-tumble lyrical stylings of CoCo (Nic), Ambr33zy (Amber) and Loli Pop (Jen). The trio rap in unison in a humorous and frank way about love, sex and relationships. Their live shows [...]
