Friday 4/8: premiere of local film ‘Woven’ with live sets from Honeycomb, Ever Isles

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ksuzJdpROGw A few months ago, the dark, captivating scenes starring Honeycomb's Emily Ritz, part of the upcoming Woven, put this short film by One Night Music's Elia Vargas on our radar. Friday April 8th, the film will celebrate its premiere at ATA on Valencia (8pm, $6), with live sets from Ever Isles and Honeycomb. About the film: Woven is textures of reality balanced in psychosis. It is a narrative driven as much by sound as by image that explores our relationship to the world through our perceptions. Those five wonderful sensory tools that extend our percepts. Woven observes Valentine as [...]

Photos: Silian Rail, Tartufi, Honeycomb at the Rickshaw Stop, 8/1/10

On Sunday, August 1st, Silian Rail were happy to crown a certain achievement: the release of Parhelion, the duo's excellent new album and latest rendition of instrumental post-rock after last year's And I, You to Pieces. The evening was jovial, relaxed, and full of talented local musicians. Honeycomb opened Sunday's show with an absolutely lovely set, and Tartufi closed out the evening with their signature experimental rock. More photos after the jump. Silian Rail Tartufi Honeycomb

Honeycomb @ Chasing the Moon

[media id=35 width=530 height=300] Emily Ritz and Honeycomb are one of our favorite new bands in the San Francisco music scene. Miss Ritz, a self taught musician, brings a unique finger style and odd meters to her ukulele playing. In less than a year, Honeycomb has become a true collaboration, now living together in their outer mission hive. Look out for performances from several familiar Chasing The Moon alumni: including Andrew Maguire’s fierce percussion playing, and Kacey Johansing’s sweet vocals tempering Emily’s feral lead. Chasing the Moon releases new episodes about once a month. To be notified of future episodes [...]

Review: Kacey Johansing’s album release show, 5/19 at the Rickshaw Stop

Kacey Johansing - "Oh, Brother" On Wednesday 5/19/2010, the Rickshaw Stop hosted a night of bands coming together to toast San Francisco singer/songwriter Kacey Johansing and the release of her debut album, Many Seasons. The evening's openers, The Range of Light Wilderness, brought intelligent garage pop with a good amount of laconic feeling. The band is made up of a bass player, drummer, and guitarist, all of whom share vocal duty. They use three-part harmonies and elevating repetition to create what sounds like Philip Glass’ garage band - if he had one, that is. The vibe was chill and their sound [...]

Media Monday: video sessions from Honeycomb, Railcars, Thao + Daytrotters

Every few weeks comes the necessary roundup of recent media that we'd love to share from Bay Area bands. Merging gorgeous visuals with local independent music, One Night Music is a new treat for us. ONM's most recent session, with the mesmerizing collective Honeycomb, was documented back in December at BlueSix. The session includes downloadable audio, videos for every song, a thorough biography and contributed coverage from Mission Local. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rdGdY-EooR8 Above, Viennese videographers They Shoot Music - Don't They have caught the Bay Area bug, releasing two videos sessions from locals Railcars and Thao with the Get Down Stay Down. Noise Pop 2010: John Vanderslice, Nurses, Honeycomb, Conspiracy of Venus @ Swedish American Hall

Photos by: Rachel Keenan The inclusion of John Vanderslice in the Noise Pop 2010 lineup should come as a surprise to no one. Regardless of new albums, collaborations, tours, proverbial blog buzz, etc., JV's spot on the bill reflects something even greater. As both a musician and San Franciscan, he epitomizes the spirit of the Noise Pop festival: an event and institution that thrives on a sense of community through local underground music, art and film, as well as highlights from a more nationwide indie scene. JV is just that - a local musician who both supports and creates community [...]
