Despite having attended a number of shows at The Independent, I'll cop to being more than a little oblivious about the existence of the currently-vacant space next door, let alone the space's legacy as a historic theater. The Harding Theater opened in 1926 and served as a movie theater and performance space until it became a church in the 1970s.
