Perfect Pussy forced to cancel for tonight’s TBB Presents gig; show goes on…for FREE

Late last night, we learned that our favorite upstate New York punk outfit Perfect Pussy unfortunately had to cancel their performance at tonight's The Bay Bridged Presents show at Rickshaw Stop due to an emergency medical situation with a band member. Fortunately, the fine folks at the Rickshaw and here at TBB were able to bring on Pure Bliss to round out the lineup with Wild Moth and Happy Diving, and the show will go on...for FREE!!! That's right, all purchased tickets for tonight's show will be refunded in full, but we're still throwing quite the party with three great [...]

The Bay Bridged Presents: Perfect Pussy, Wild Moth, Happy Diving @ Rickshaw Stop, 3/21/14

Those who are faint of heart should probably stay away from this one. Those who fancy themselves bold and enlightened enough to appreciate all types of music no matter its level of sonic density or blatant vulgarity- remember to at least bring a pair of earplugs. If there is one thing Perfect Pussy definitely isn't, it's subtle.  For all the kids out there too young to remember what real punk rock sounds like (not the easily packageable, corporately hijacked form that dominated radio stations and record charts in the '90s), a quick listen to the band's four-track demo tape exemplifies the genre [...]

Happy Diving announce music video for “Never Been”

Happy Diving have released quite the EP early on this year: a small collection of four tracks, the self-titled release is a series of power-pop ditties underneath a layer of fuzzed out noise. Set to be released on Father Daughter Records, the EP follows the criteria for sad college rock (in the best possible way, of course): love sick lyrics behind a sludge of distortion are common in the tracks. In support of their EP, the group have released a music video for their track "Never Been," which includes the band performing under multiple exposures with some psychedelic lighting. The EP [...]

Interview: UK's Drenge playing Bottom of the Hill this Friday

When a politician resigns, the last thing you expect is for them to give a recommendation for their favorite live band of the moment. That's what happened to UK grunge duo, Drenge. Stranger than fiction? Yes. But another boost for the brothers, who go by Rory and Eoin Loveless, for their raw debut album? Yes. The self-titled album was released in August 2013 and grabbing attention for its potent angst that only the rawness of brothers-that-grew-up-in-suburbia could produce. Drenge, which means "boys" in Danish, are currently touring the U.S. and banging out the apathy of their songs live. The two [...]

Mixtape: Fourteen of the Bay Area's Best Record Labels (Podcast #325) Download: Mixtape: The Bay Area's Best Record Labels (Podcast #325) It's conventional wisdom nowadays that bands no longer need record labels to release music into the world. Still, it would be foolish to think that labels no longer matter. A label association can be a critical stamp of approval for potential new fans; the best labels build audiences' trust to the point that they'll support new artists even before hearing them. All of this is to say nothing, of course, of the distribution services labels can offer, and any financial or booking support they might also provide. In recent [...] and Father/Daughter showcase at The Knockout

San Francisco's most secretly located underground radio station and the darling Father/Daughter Records are teaming up to present a showcase at Bernal Heights' Knockout this Thursday. City-based headliners Cocktails, who have opened for the likes of Mac DeMarco and Parquet Courts, are a power-pop group (who just threw down a new track). They'll be releasing a 7-inch called Friday at the show. Brooklyn's Blood Sister, which features members from Night Manager, Ganglians, and Warm Soda, will be making their first San Francisco appearance. The noise-pop project, which includes San Francisco native Ezana Edwards, self-released an EP (titled ‡) earlier this year. The first single for the EP, "Why Would You" (NSFW video [...]
