The Bay Brewed Artist Q&A: Golden Void on new songs, guitar lessons, and local brews

The Bay Brewed, San Francisco’s only indie rock beer festival, returns on December 7 at Public Works for a third year of great music and beer. Over the next month, we'll catch up with all six of the festival's superb local bands to discuss how beer, music, and the Bay Area all fit together. In this edition, we chat with Golden Void whose 2012 self-titled album was a favorite around The Bay Bridged office, and the band has news about a new record, the inside scoop on how to get guitar lessons from their frontman, and their picks for the best local musicians [...]

Mixtape: Bay Area Jams to Accompany Beer Drinking (Podcast #320)

http://media.libsyn.com/media/thebaybridged/Beer_Mix_2013.mp3 Download: Mixtape: Bay Area Jams to Accompany Beer Drinking (Podcast #320) As we've long said, we're love great beer almost as much as we love great music. Combine the two, and you've got a recipe for a good time. This mixtape is something of a successor to our 2011 rock and beer pairing, collecting a whole mess of local rock and roll bands that sound great when paired with a tasty pint. The mix features music from 20 Bay Area bands, including garage nuggets from Shannon and the Clams and Warm Soda, hard rock jams courtesy of FUZZ and [...]

The Bay Brewed 2013: Mikal Cronin, Shannon and the Clams to headline our rock and roll beer festival!

On December 7, 2013, SF's only indie rock beer festival, The Bay Brewed, returns to Public Works for a third year of great music and beer. We're now pleased to announce the festival's lineup six amazing local rock bands, led by Mikal Cronin and Shannon and the Clams. Both acts have had banner 2013s, releasing two of our favorite albums, MCII and Dreams in the Rat House, and they're both consistently great live performers. While you're enjoying all of the excellent music, you'll be enjoying unlimited tastings from over a dozen local breweries all day long thanks to the SF [...]

Editors’ Picks: What We’ve Been Listening to This Week (The Mallard, Fossor House, Golden Void, and more)

The Mallard (Photo: Marcus Alcino) Editors’ Picks is a new feature collecting music that we’ve been enjoying recently. Ben: Hearing these new songs by The Mallard leak out one at a time, and knowing that the band has already called it quits, is starting to feel like the beginning of a death by a thousand cuts. It stings all the more because "Crystals & Candles" is the best song I've heard yet from this group yet, a linear, dare I say it?, pop-inclined track that sounds like a band approaching the peak, not teetering on the precipice. Finding [...]

The Bay Bridged Presents: The 8th Annual El Rio Big Time Freedom Fest on July 4th

Whether your idea of a quality Independence Day is running amok with sparklers and M-80s around the Mission, or watching the bigtime show from Bernal Hill -- you can do all of these things and still make it over to El Rio for our 8th annual party, Big Time Freedom Fest. Five bands will provide musical entertainment starting at 3:30pm, and Rocky's Frybread will be served all day. Music ends promptly at 8:30, which is just in time for the darkness to kick in and the skies to light up. The Freedom Fest lineup for this year includes one of [...]

Mixtape: San Francisco's Newest Psychedelic Sounds (Podcast #306)

Mixtape: San Francisco's Newest Psychedelic Sounds (Podcast #306) It's almost 18 months since we last did a psych-focused mixtape, which means there's quite a bit to catch up on. The Bay continues to be a vital source for top-notch mind-expanding bands, whether it's the heady drones of Carlton Melton and Date Palms, or the swaggering rock of Glitter Wizard and Coo Coo Birds. Several of the groups included here have new records either out now or coming out soon. Prolific instrumental duo Barn Owl just released its fifth album, V, on Thrill Jockey; meanwhile, cosmic rock group Lumerians is serving [...]

Record Store Day 2013 is tomorrow (pick up vinyl from locals Ty Segall, Golden Void, Moon Duo and more)

Lovers of vinyl will go to bed tonight with visions of sugar-plums dancing in their heads, as Record Store Day – the high holiday for audiophiles around the world – returns tomorrow, and more than 25 Bay Area independent record shops are participating in the madness. This year's event (the seventh official RSD) features not only its usual array of special releases from high profile musicians, but a handful of local acts are jumping into the fray, dropping limited edition wax that will no doubt delight many scenesters from the Bay and beyond. Included on that list of local denizens [...]

Photos by Nicole L. Browner Thanks to everyone who came out and packed our Noise Pop happy hour show last Friday! If you were there, you know how much all three bands, Golden Void, Wild Moth, and DSTVV totally ruled. If you weren't able to make it, enjoy this photo gallery from the show. Thanks again to all of the bands, the folks at Bender's, and, of course, Noise Pop for the great afternoon. [nggallery id="230"]

Review: The Bay Bridged Happy Hour @ Benders; Damien Jurado @ The Chapel, 3/1/13 (Noise Pop 2013)

Noise Pop 2013: Damien Jurado @ The Chapel 3/1/13 - photo by Debra Zeller Friday night's Noise Pop Festival offered a chance to see a clash of styles within a couple blocks of each other, both in terms of the music played and the venues. First, I caught The Bay Bridged's Noise Pop Happy Hour at Bender's featuring Golden Void, Wild Moth, and DSTVV, and then hitched over to another Noise Pop performance from Damien Jurado down the street at The Chapel. Since the event was organized by The Bay Bridged, it doesn't feel right to gush and gush about [...]
