Sonoma County rock bands rally to benefit The Phoenix Theater
Sabertooth Zombie and Brown Bags will rock out at The Phoenix Theater on February 16, in a collective effort to raise funds for necessary updates to the iconic venue. They will be joined by Glitter Wizard and Thus the Buzz, for a rousing night of heavy rock and progressive punk. Sabertooth Zombie hails from the North Bay and never fails to deliver the loudest, most energetic heavy rock with a zip of punk wedged in for good measure. The show's exciting array of rockers makes it easy to show up with friends to support The Phoenix Theater, a venue that [...]

This episode first appeared on KQED.org. http://media.libsyn.com/media/thebaybridged/Festivals_2017_Mixtape.mp3 Download: Mixtape: Northern California's Best Music Festivals (Podcast #407) Music festival season unofficially kicked off over Memorial Day weekend, with the latest installment of the BottleRock Napa Valley festival attracting 120,000 attendees for three days of food, wine, and over 80 bands ranging from the Foo Fighters to the Napa Youth Symphony. The number and types of music fests has grown considerably in recent years -- among this year's new offerings are not one, but two new music and comedy weekends coming to the Bay in June -- surely to the dismay of [...]
Halloween is coming, and so are the tribute bands
Halloween really brings something out of the Bay Area's local bands, because there are a ton of Halloween-themed shows happening this week. But while some groups may throw in a cover or two, or wear costumes on stage, others are going the extra mile and performing full tribute sets celebrating great artists. Tribute bands, as it turns out, likely get a bad rap most of the year because the bands they're celebrating aren't very good; when the right tributes are presented, they sound pretty appealing. Here are five tribute band shows to consider this week. Any other great tribute shows [...]

Mixtape: San Francisco's Newest Psychedelic Sounds (Podcast #306)
Mixtape: San Francisco's Newest Psychedelic Sounds (Podcast #306) It's almost 18 months since we last did a psych-focused mixtape, which means there's quite a bit to catch up on. The Bay continues to be a vital source for top-notch mind-expanding bands, whether it's the heady drones of Carlton Melton and Date Palms, or the swaggering rock of Glitter Wizard and Coo Coo Birds. Several of the groups included here have new records either out now or coming out soon. Prolific instrumental duo Barn Owl just released its fifth album, V, on Thrill Jockey; meanwhile, cosmic rock group Lumerians is serving [...]

Four local release shows this weekend: Philistines/MINOT, Tussle, Glitter Wizard, Trails and Ways

The B-side is this cover of Miguel's "Sure Thing." Over at the Hemlock Tavern on Friday night, heavy rockers Glitter Wizard will be partying for the release of their latest album, Hunting Gatherers, on Captcha Records. Not content to merely party on Halloween? Go to Hallorager at Thee Parkside!
If you'd rather RAGE than merely party on Halloween, this one's for you: Hallorager at Thee Parkside. It should be a pretty cool night. For starters, four Bay Area bands will be masquerading as some of their favorite punk pioneers for the night and playing all covers. Glitter Wizard will go back to their roots as The Seeds, Twin Steps will be spasming as The Cramps, Meat Market will hopefully not defecate on the stage as they interpret their favorite G.G. & The Jabbers tunes, and The Parmesans will be working out The Kinks. But that's not all! No, for [...]
