In Generation Loss, a San Francisco-based punk project, there are four members. There's Hannah Lew, a fixture in the San Francisco music scene (known for playing in Grass Widow and Cold Beat) is on bass and vocals. Kyle Crawford, of tape label Wizard Mountain, is on guitar and sings. Chad Peterson plays drums. And then there's the omnipresent "video." Mixtape: 2014 San Francisco Punk, Post-Punk and Hardcore Download: Mixtape: 2014 San Francisco Punk, Post-Punk and Hardcore (Podcast #334) In 2012, ancient by Internet standards, we showcased a mixtape of local punk, post-punk and hardcore bands that featured terrific groups like Ceremony, Loma Prieta, Terry Malts, Wild Moth, and Synthetic ID. As Jason mentioned in writing up the album a little while back, the names behind this band speak volumes: Kyle Crawford has long been championing great local bands with his label Wizard Mountain and Hannah Lew's post-Grass Widow output is a seemingly never-ending series of exciting projects. The [...]

It took a song for the band to reconfigure, but ultimately it worked. The band morphed into a more primitive punk sound and the crowd responded with a swirling mosh pit. The spontaneous rearrangement was impressive, but, shoved to stage left, I yearned for a guitar string. I wanted the show to pick up where the second tune of [...]
