Mixtape: New Music from Longtime Bay Area Artists

http://media.libsyn.com/media/thebaybridged/Veteran_Artists_Mixtape.mp3 Download: Mixtape: New Music from Longtime Bay Area Artists (Podcast #413) Between streaming music services and social media, it feels easier than ever to find and consume an endless supply of new bands. But all of that access can also make it more challenging to find the time to keep up with previous favorites. There are plenty of good reasons to get excited about young bands, debut albums, and the prospect of discovering emerging artists, but there's also something uniquely rewarding to watching a great musician's career evolve over time. This mixtape collects new and recent music from twelve [...]

Premiere: Garrett Pierce – "Crazy" (Seal Cover)

Northern California songwriter Garrett Pierce has been a Seal fan for a long time. Today, we're happy to premiere his version of "Crazy" -- a cover which comes with a little bit of a backstory to it: Around five years back a group of some of my favorite musicians and friends came together to do a cover song contest reinterpreting Seal's "Kiss From a Rose". Though I was invited to participate, I never recorded a version I liked, and truthfully, I've always preferred "Crazy" if I was going to record a Seal song. Well, after receiving an email from my [...]

Glitz – 'It's Glitz' LP; at Starry Plough 4/27/13

Besides having one of the best album covers I've seen in a long time (anyone else craving an IT'S-IT right about now?), Glitz's It's Glitz LP is a rollicking collection of power pop that's well worth a few turns in your earbuds. The album is out now via Grazer Records. IT'Z GLITZ by Glitz See Glitz in person tomorrow night, Saturday 4/37/13, along with Luke Sweeney's Wet Dreams Dry Magic and Garrett Pierce (a somewhat strange yet intriguing bill), at the Starry Plough. Mixtape: Singer-Songwriters of the San Francisco Bay Area (Podcast #293)

Mixtape: Singer-Songwriters of the San Francisco Bay Area (Podcast #293) With its rich history of folk musicians and lyrical rockers, the Bay Area has long been a source of terrific singer-songwriters. Even today, while much of the buzz around local musicians focuses on some of our weirder (or, perhaps, more "now") rock subgenres, there continue to be numerous talented folks crafting lyrically-rich, deeply personal music. For some reason, 2012 seems like an especially strong year for local songwriters, with well-received new albums this year from beloved veterans like Mark Eitzel and Mark Kozelek's Sun Kil Moon, as well as newer [...]

Video Premiere: Garrett Pierce – "Twenty Four Hours" (Joy Division cover)

Garrett Pierce has been writing delicate, thoughtful folk songs either in or around the Bay Area for quite some time now, and is no stranger to The Bay Bridged. That being said, when he came to us with a music video to accompany a cover of his favorite Closer track, we weren't going to turn it away. "Twenty Four Hours" by Joy Division is a moody, mid-tempoed song with plenty of potential to be even slower, which Pierce artfully maneuvers, calling it a "raw, stripped-down spin on [my] favorite song off 'Closer' by Joy Division." Its accompanying video is a [...]
