Ty Segall-led Fuzz playing at the Chapel in SF, Starline Social Club in Oakland

Fuzz, a no-nonsense garage rock trio that specializes in loud kickass songs and even louder kick ass songs, will play two shows in the Bay Area on Sunday and Monday nights. Led by the uber-prolific Ty Segall, Fuzz will open up for veteran grunge rockers Mudhoney at The Chapel in San Francisco on October 18 and at the Starline Social Club in Oakland on October 19. Segall, a former San Francisco resident who is basically constantly making music, mans the drums for Fuzz, letting his longtime pals Charles Mootheart and Chad Ubovich handle the guitar and bass-playing duties. Although he’s [...]

Live This Month: May 2015 — an audio guide to upcoming SF concerts

http://media.libsyn.com/media/thebaybridged/LTM_May_2015.mp3 Download: Live This Month: May 2015 (Podcast #362) In Live This Month, we sample some of the great local and out-of-town bands performing in the coming month in the San Francisco Bay Area. It’s probably not that surprising that this month’s mix includes two bands each from Portland (Other Lives, Wishyunu) and from Brooklyn (San Fermin, Ava Luna), but Memphis? Supported by stellar local label Goner Records, the Tennessee city’s garage rock scene is brimming with talent, and Nots and Ex-Cult both deliver intense, raucous rock and roll likely to make for some excellent live shows. Speaking of raucous, [...]

FUZZ and CCR Headcleaner release new split seven-inch

In the newest edition of Famous Class Records’ “Less Artists More Condos”  7” split series, the label brings #10 with San Francisco groups FUZZ (which includes former Bay Area garage rocker Ty Segall) and CCR Headcleaner, the psych sludge band that is currently tearing up the scene. In an unorthodox move, FUZZ covers The Kinks’ “Till The End Of The Day” in their normal (but abnormal for The Kinks) stoner-garage-rock style. The song takes the same melodic stance as the original version, but combines it with Segall’s screeching, reverbed vocals. They even incorporate an insane guitar solo in the middle [...]

Best of 2013: Daniel Senter’s 2013 East Bay highlights

I joined The Bay Bridged staff as a Production Associate last spring, and it has been endlessly enjoyable to be pulled deeper into the sonic recesses of the Bay Area’s various scenes by TBB. As an Oakland resident, my Best of list just happened to trend toward the Bay’s warmer side, so I went with it. A few 2013 East Bay highlights, in no particular order: Glenn Jackson – Morning Swim EP The sounds are bright, breathy, and totally groovy. This three song solo debut from Oakland’s Glenn Jackson is house music to be enjoyed outside – whether on a [...]

http://media.libsyn.com/media/thebaybridged/2013_Highlights_Mix.mp3 Download: Mixtape: Thirteen Bay Area Highlights from 2013 (Podcast #322) As usual, our year-end wrap-up podcast comes leaden with hemming, hawing and caveats aplenty. How can another wide-ranging year full of impressive Bay Area releases be distilled down to a coherent list of "best" works? The obvious answer is that it can't. Ultimately, this podcast collects thirteen bands that had impressive 2013s, including a number of groups that won't be a surprise to attendees of Bay Bridged events or close followers of the blog. 2013 was once again banner year for local garage rock, with another stellar album from [...]

Mixtape: Bay Area Jams to Accompany Beer Drinking (Podcast #320)

http://media.libsyn.com/media/thebaybridged/Beer_Mix_2013.mp3 Download: Mixtape: Bay Area Jams to Accompany Beer Drinking (Podcast #320) As we've long said, we're love great beer almost as much as we love great music. Combine the two, and you've got a recipe for a good time. This mixtape is something of a successor to our 2011 rock and beer pairing, collecting a whole mess of local rock and roll bands that sound great when paired with a tasty pint. The mix features music from 20 Bay Area bands, including garage nuggets from Shannon and the Clams and Warm Soda, hard rock jams courtesy of FUZZ and [...]

Fuzz gets ready for LP release with new single "What's In My Head"

With the release of their self-titled debut full-length just two weeks, the retro blues metal trio Fuzz has another track to share with their soon-to-be sizable legion of fans. "What's In My Head" starts off with a '60s British blues vibe and then explodes into of tremendous calamity of distorted guitars and skull-rattling drums, sticking with the sound that we've come to expect from Fuzz, now two EPs and a handful of singles into their still young career. Fuzz is out October 1 on In The Red, and it's now available for pre-order on the label's website. The band heads [...]

Fuzz announces debut LP, streaming single "Loose Sutres"

We knew the news would come eventually, and thankfully it came sooner rather than later. Fuzz, the SF-based trio comprised of Charlie Moothart (guitar), Roland Cosio (bass), and Ty Segall (drums, vocals), recently announced that they will release their self-titled, debut full-length on October 1 via In The Red. They also treated their fans to a nice little something – the album's first single "Loose Sutres", which features more of the hard-hitting, sludge-tastic, psychedelic throwback metal sound that we've come to know through the band's first two 7-inches. The new LP will be fêted with a lengthy tour, starting off [...]

Review & Photos: Total Control Plays with Fuzz and Thee Oh Sees at SF Eagle 6/8/13

After nearly two years of radio silence, the SF Eagle (formerly known as the Eagle Tavern) is now back up and running in all of its dive-y, leather and denim clad, LGBT glory. Like before, the SF Eagle is playing host to some really cool local and visiting rock bands, like Friday night’s show featuring Fuzz, Total Control, and Thee Oh Sees. I arrived at the venue to find a long line wrapped around the building - 9pm and the show was already over capacity. Not sure whether this was a good sign or not, I headed in only to realize [...]

Mixtape: San Francisco's Newest Psychedelic Sounds (Podcast #306)

Mixtape: San Francisco's Newest Psychedelic Sounds (Podcast #306) It's almost 18 months since we last did a psych-focused mixtape, which means there's quite a bit to catch up on. The Bay continues to be a vital source for top-notch mind-expanding bands, whether it's the heady drones of Carlton Melton and Date Palms, or the swaggering rock of Glitter Wizard and Coo Coo Birds. Several of the groups included here have new records either out now or coming out soon. Prolific instrumental duo Barn Owl just released its fifth album, V, on Thrill Jockey; meanwhile, cosmic rock group Lumerians is serving [...]
