French Miami announces second LP 'New Family,' drops video for single "Hello Oakland"

Former SF residents and current Brooklynites French Miami announced yesterday that they will release their second LP New Family on 6/28/12, and also posted the video for the album's first single "Hello Oakland". The video is a frenetically-paced piece featuring a series of brief clips of singer, bandleader, and real estate agent-by-day Jay Heiselmann seated in a stark basement while handling a rotating cast of instruments. Watch the video below, and then stream audio of "Hello Oakland" and check out the New Family cover art after the jump. In addition to releasing the video for "Hello Oakland", the band made [...]

Mixtape: The Ones That Got Away (Podcast #255)

This episode is sponsored by BottleRockIt. Mixtape: The Ones That Got Away (Podcast #255) Our recent Regional Bias fundraiser concert featured the final local performance by Royal Baths before the band relocates to the East Coast, a fact that got us thinking about the many active artists who have left the Bay Area for other pastures in recent years. As an organization founded to champion local music, we focus on bands while they live here, but there's always a lingering feeling that great bands that depart are "the ones that got away." Live This Month: December 2010 — an audio guide through SF concerts this month (Podcast #239) In Live This Month, we sample some of the great local and out-of-town bands performing in the coming month in the San Francisco Bay Area. Although things get a little quiet around Christmas, December's got plenty of concert highlights. For some, like Casiotone for the Painfully Alone, this month's show marks the end of a long run, while others, like Sic Alps and Millionyoung, already have big releases planned for early 2011. Enjoy this mix and then go check out some shows! Subscribe to [...] debuts new show series at Milk

The local, show listings-based has announced a new indie show series in the Upper Haight. This series will take place on Thursdays (starting this Thursday, 3/11) at a new venue called Milk, which has taken over the previous Club Boomerang space, located at 1840 Haight St. (across from Amoeba Records). Considering there isn't much in the way of indie rock venues over in that section of town, this should prove to be an interesting (and welcome) experiment. French Miami - "Science Fiction" The first rendition of this series on Thursday will feature French Miami, White Cloud and [...]

Musical Pairings: The Bay Needs Guitars!

It is Fall in the Bay Area, and like most other places on the West coast, that means it gets dark earlier in the evenings, stays dark longer in the mornings, and we are already seeing some monsoon-like rains that will be more and more frequent in the coming months.  And although there is nothing wrong with throwing on The Morning Benders' excellent Bedroom Covers album or the Papercuts' fantastic You Can Have What You Want and pulling out a bottle of red wine and choosing to accept and deal with the weather (great albums for that purpose by the [...]
