El Ten Eleven has a new three-song EP out, called For emily, and are touring in support. Full dates below. The band, which prefers to be called a "Power Duo" instead of any of the more descriptive labels you might want to use (like instrumental rock, post-rock, or math rock), put out the For emily EP as a tribute to a friend of theirs who passed away last year (the "e" in emily is lower case on purpose because that's how she spelled it). Coming back from their most recent remix album, 'Transitions Remixed', released this past April, El Ten Eleven will be playing Slim's this Friday in anticipation for the release of their new EP, 'For emily', in February. El Ten Eleven truly encompass the progressive rock genre by taking instrumentals to a whole new level. On their newest single, "Nova Scotia", off of their forthcoming EP, the duo, guitarist/bassist Kristian Dunn, and drummer Tim Fogarty, effectively mix their strong melodic traits - through Dunn's uncanny ability to blend from soft to intense instrumentation - and rhythmic blends - with Fogarty's heart-wrenching drumming. New Bay Area supergroup Pale Blue Dot opening for El Ten Eleven tonight, 1/11/13
The East Bay trio known as Pale Blue Dot does not necessarily self-identify as a "supergroup," but I went there anyway. Comprised of members of James & Evander, The Aimless Never Miss, and B. Hamilton, what else would you call it? "There may be a few Bay Area music nerds who know our other bands, but we'd hardly call it a supergroup," says Adam Myatt, also of James & Evander. El Ten Eleven released their new album Transitions on Election Day, so should we expect to find subversive political messages embedded in the instrumental duo's new album?
