Tour de Fat: New Belgium’s traveling celebration of bicycles, food and music comes to SF
This weekend, New Belgium Brewing will bring its traveling appreciation festival to Lindley Meadow at Golden Gate Park for an afternoon event headlined by alternative indie rockers Dr. Dog on Saturday, September 17. The day begins with a group "slow ride" around and throughout Golden Gate Park, immediately followed by a fashion show, a bicycle giveaway via a game-show style event, three musical acts (concluding with Dr. Dog), a cars-for-bikes trade-in, and specialty New Belgium brews and food trucks being featured throughout. This year marks the 17th season for Tour de Fat, which began in Fort Collins, Colorado, and is the [...]
Dr. Dog comes to Oakland in support of new live LP
(Credit: Nicky Devine) Remember when bands used to make live albums? Yeah, didn't think so. Fortunately, Dr. Dog does remember the importance of the live show, a fact well-known to anyone who has seen them in concert, witnessing a powerful combination of musical versatility, high energy and an unwavering passion for performance. So it's about time the group has captured their live sound for an official release. Titled Live at a Flamingo Hotel, it's a must-have for any fan, whether unfortunate enough to have missed their physical presence or not. Featuring a bunch of tracks from their latest studio LP [...]
Dr. Dog feels the love at The Warfield
Photo by Mike Rosati Folks were ready to start when Dr. Dog came on stage Saturday night at The Warfield. The conversations dropped immediately as the lights went down and the six-piece Philadelphia band took the stage. United in their attention, with their shoulders relaxed, necks loose and sunglasses on, the crowd got ready for the jams. And the jams got on. Dr. Dog got on strong, setting a solid groundwork in sound and mood and with delicate control over the atmosphere. The guys performed in a playful and optimistic manner, happy and confident in their individual styles. With a [...]

Free Dr. Dog show on 8/25/12 @ Marina Green as part of America's Cup World Series week
Fresh off another crowd-pleasing performance at this year's Outside Lands, Philadelphia's Dr. Dog yesterday announced their next visit to San Francisco - a free show on August 25th at Marina Green, as part of the 2012 America's Cup World Series racing season. Consider this the first official "musical heads up" that the international sailing competition is quickly approaching our shores. The 2012-13 World Series season is broken down into four separate weeks of practice racing and official competition. San Francisco hosts the first two blocks, August 21st-26th and October 2nd-7th, with Marina Green turning into the official America's Cup Village. [...]
Dr. Dog (and Monsanto) at Cal Day 4/21/12…… plus Buzzcocks 4/20/12!
It was the most beautiful day of the year; clear, sunny and warm. Dr. Dog played a great free show in front of the University Library on UC Berkeley's Memorial Glade as part of its annual Cal Day. They rocked through the catalog including multiple numbers from my favorite records We All Belong and Fate. Shucks, there was free root beer for cryin' out loud. What could possibly go wrong?! Then I strolled by this tiny sign. I had to read it a few times. Monsanto and UC have partnered to bring us toxic lawns?! Ee-gatz! It's one thing to [...]
Free Dr. Dog show at UC Berkeley this Saturday
Over the eleven years that Dr. Dog has been making people smile with their music, the Philadelphia quintet has always showed plenty of love to the Bay Area and Northern California. On top of annual multi-night runs at The Independent and Fillmore, they've played Treasure Island, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, High Sierra, and will complete our local festival circuit this August when they rock Outside Lands. So it's no surprise that UC Berkeley tapped the group to close out their 2012 Cal Day this Saturday, with a free show on the campus's Memorial Glade at 4pm. No student ID is required [...]
The Black Keys, Dr. Dog Ticket Giveaway!
Next week will have all of us running from venue to venue catching some amazing shows as October comes to a close. One of the non-local shows that looks to be amazing is going to be over at the Fillmore on Thursday, October 30th with The Black Keys and Dr. Dog. We've seen both of these bands in the past before - and have loved every minute. I might even claim that Dr. Dog was the highlight of my 2008 Treasure Island Music Festival experience so this show will not disappoint. Dr. Dog - "Worst Trip" from We [...]

Whew! Our hands and eyes are sore, but we've finally put together the photos from Day 2 of the Treasure Island Music Festival! Featuring some stellar local acts paired with incredible national acts, Day 2 was definitely a highlight for most of us over here. Once again our beloved and soon to be departing photographer, Muhammad Asranur, captured all of the action from the festival on Sunday! You can view his photos from Day 1 here as well as our live blog coverage of both Saturday and Sunday to get the play by play of each day. Or, the Whale [...]
