Live This Month: September 2011 – an audio guide through SF concerts this month (Podcast #256)

Live This Month: September 2011 (Podcast #256) In Live This Month, we sample some of the great local and out-of-town bands performing in the coming month in the San Francisco Bay Area. Two big local-focused events top this month's calendar. First, we're pleased to be co-producing the free, all ages 2011 Rock Make Street Festival, taking place on September 17th at Treat Avenue and 18th Street in the Mission District. Additionally, the Mission Creek Music Festival returns to SF and Oakland for its fifteenth installment this month. Beyond those fests, the September concert calendar seems heavy on out-of-town acts playing [...]

Washed Out’s Yours Truly session includes cameos from Dominant Legs, The Frail

Yourstru.ly Presents: Washed Out "Far Away" from Yours Truly on Vimeo. On the surface, it's about as random of a collaboration as one could come across. Before Washed Out headlined the Great American Music Hall last month, Ernest walked a few blocks over to Hyde Street Studio C where Yours Truly did their thing, with studio engineer Scott McDowell (Birds & Batteries, Sean Hayes, Geographer) capturing the session's audio. The first striking thing about this video is the "soft rock" approach Erwin takes to the otherwise pronounced "chillwave" genre he's been trailblazing. After a seconds of "Far Away," a smooth [...]

Dominant Legs - Hoop of Love from Eugene Kotlyarenko on Vimeo. In celebration of Dominant Legs' LP Invitation, due out September 27 on Lefse, the band has released a video for its first single, "Hoop of Love," which recently premiered on Stererogum. Additionally, last month Dominant Legs churned out a fresh Daytrotter session -- I don't know if we've mentioned that yet. The band's upcoming nationwide tour dates with Nurses are after the jump. Here's our latest month-in-review mix collecting some our favorite new (or new to us) songs recently posted on the website. Gathered in the mix are fifteen tracks, all from Bay Area bands, that were posted on TheBayBridged.com in July. The Bay Bridged - Best of the Blog July 2011 Mixtape Tracklisting: 1. Dominant Legs - "Hoop Of Love" 2. Part Time - "In This Filthy City" 3. Man/Miracle - "Meditations on Nothing" 4. [...]

Photos: Best set goes to Melted Toys, with Real Estate and Dominant Legs @ The Independent, 8/2/11

At Tuesday night's Independent show with Dominant Legs and Melted Toys, Real Estate pulled together a tighter, more engaging set than they did in the Big Sur woods over the weekend. Hunched over and adoringly strumming, they concluded their Bay Area visit with the three-part harmonies people over the weekend were dying for on "Green River" and "Suburban Beverage." It was a lovely set, but openers Melted Toys won the evening with one of their best performances to date. They unveiled a few new songs that added a little more flavor to their 80s sound, testing out an acoustic guitar [...]

Real Estate’s new single, tour stops in Big Sur and at the Independent

Real Estate spent a good part of this year keeping quiet about their upcoming plans, including the move to Domino Records along with all of their side projects' catalogs. Just last week they shared "It's Real" from their upcoming Domino debut, Days, on the shelves October 18. Pick up the 7" single for "It's Real" as early as September 27, and enjoy a re-recording of another new one, "Blue Lebaron" (demo recording was posted in January via Pitchfork). Real Estate - "Blue Lebaron" Real Estate - "It's Real" The Bay Area has the lucky chance to preview a lot of [...]
