After 15 years, Pickathon’s organizers have the winning festival formula dialed in: eclectic line-up + attendance capped at 7,000 + kid-friendly + environmentally-friendly = everybody’s happy. Featured musical artists tended to agree, frequently declaring the three-day festival a highlight of their touring circuit. “Everyone in the world is trying to do what you’re doing here,” [...]

Camper Van Beethoven to celebrate 30th anniversary with new album, tour stop at The Independent on 12/28/12

Indie rock pioneers Camper Van Beethoven are ramping up for a thirtieth anniversary celebration in 2013. On January 22nd, the band will release La Costa Perdida, its eighth studio album and first in nine years and, in anticipation of the new record, a 12-date tour with frontman David Lowery's other band Cracker has been planned, including stops at The Independent in San Francisco and the Mystic Theatre in Petaluma. Their inclusion on the just-announced, crazy-good Treasure Island Music Festival lineup was definitely a big up, but here's an even bigger one: Treasure Island is Divine Fits' first and (currently) only scheduled date following the release of their debut album. Fuck yeah, San Francisco for [...]
