Video: Dirty Ghosts – "Katana Rock"; playing 2012 Treasure Island Music Festival

Dirty Ghosts' status as an exciting and notable act has been further confirmed, as the band has secured one of the coveted local opener spots at this year's Treasure Island Music Festival. Allyson Baker and crew will help set the tone for Saturday's electronic-fueled lineup, opening for the likes of Grimes, Toro y Moi, Public Enemy, Tycho, Girl Talk, and more. Dirty Ghosts' new digital single, "Katana Rock" / "Eyes of a Stranger", is out now, following the band's debut Metal Moon full-length. The single is currently streaming (via Soundcloud), and "Katana Rock" is also available in video form (via [...]

Review: K-Holes, Dirty Ghosts, & Blasted Canyons bring the noise at Brick and Mortar, 6/26/12

K-Holes stopped off at San Francisco's Brick and Mortar Music Hall on Tuesday night, as the band's North American tour in support of their second LP Dismania continued down the West Coast before turning back east. The Brooklyn-based noise punk quintet was joined by two Bay Area acts also with fresh releases — Dirty Ghosts and Blasted Canyons — for what was a loud and aggressive show from start to finish. Blasted Canyons, the band Heather Fedewa (aka Hether Fortune) plays in when she's not doing her Wax Idols thing, kicked off the evening with an incendiary half-hour set. With [...]

K-Holes playing Brick and Mortar this Tuesday 6/26/12 with Dirty Ghosts and Blasted Canyons

Brooklyn's K-Holes will descend upon the City this Tuesday, 6/26/12, as their North American tour in support of their second LP Dismania continues into the summer. The sludgy garage punk outfit is playing a gig at Brick and Mortar supported by two Bay Area bands, Dirty Ghosts and Blasted Canyons. Dismania, released May 17th on Hardly Art, has brought K-Holes some much deserved critical acclaim, as the band's sound progressed from their eponymous 2011 debut with a healthy dose of more distinct, footstomp-worthy guitar riffs, not to mention the brilliant addition of saxophonist Sara Villard. Stereogum recently premiered the track [...]

Noise Pop 2012: Dirty Ghosts, Bare Wires, Carletta Sue Kay, Chapter 24 @ Brick and Mortar Music Hall 2/23/12

I am helplessly addicted to London's Chapter 24. Is it the intense Richard Lloyd guitar work? Is it the mere fact that no one else is making music like this?? Is it the image of melodica on leg?? Choose "D," all of the above. Since my first encounter at last year's SXSW, I've been hooked. They already have nine shows lined up for Austin, so I suppose I's got my work cut out for me. As fun as their recordings are, this is a band to see live. Singer Claire paces back and forth on stage like a caged cheetah. [...]

Dirty Ghosts – "Ropes That Way"

Dirty Ghosts - "Ropes That Way" Like dirty ghosts, Allyson Baker and Carson Binks, two Toronto expats, rose from the ashes of their old San Francisco-based band Parchman Farm and formed Dirty Ghosts in 2006, a stripped down form of gritty garage and psychedelia with drum loop-y programming by hip-hop recording artist and producer -- and Baker's husband -- Aesop Rock. After looking for a singer with no luck, Baker finally and reluctantly said "fuck it" and has since added vocalist to her resume. But when she lost Binks in 2011 to Oakland stoner metal band Saviours, she had to [...]
