What’s Happening This Week? A Guide To Shows Around The Bay, Oct 9 – 12

The very definitely not retired Rainer Maria comes to the Chapel on Wednesday. Monday, October 9 Low Roar @ The Chapel The Bay Area ex-pat, currently settled in Warsaw, comes home to the Chapel. Trevor Sensor @ The Crepe Place He's coming to SF the night after, but the small (some might say cramped) Crepe Place seems a more appropriate setting for his solo singer-songwriter vibes. Tuesday, October 10 SMSHING HRTS, Naked Walrus, Shipwright @ Bottom of the Hill This is almost an all-local lineup — Naked Walrus throws the curve. Pinegrove, Florist, Lomelda @ The Catalyst Pinegrove is blowing [...]

Noise Pop: DIIV give the slow burn over two nights at Brick & Mortar

DIIV (photo: Kristin Cofer) Hosting back-to-back shows at the Brick & Mortar Music Hall, DIIV gave a rousing performance both Saturday and Sunday night as part of the 2016 Noise Pop Music Festival.  They were joined by Summer Peaks and Tennis System.  We were lucky enough to have two great photographers at the show and we offer all their photos of the event in one gallery, Jon Ching and Kristin Cofer have a sampling of all the bands from the night below.

DIIV playing Great American Music Hall on Thursday

DIIV are set to take the stage at Great American Music Hall this Thursday, May 1. Having remained quiet since releasing the lo-fi, reverb-soaked Oshin in 2011, the band are rumored to be releasing new material sometime this year. "[We'll be] crawling out of our basements to play a whole bunch of new material but probably still wearing the same clothes as last tour. We've been working on filming visuals for projections and designing other stuff to do with visual element the live show which should be cool," from a post on DIIV's Facebook and Tumblr pages. Since the release [...]

Review & Photos: DIIV, Wax Idols, SISU, LENZ at Brick & Mortar Music Hall, 3/2/13 (Noise Pop 2013)

There was a lot to choose from among Saturday's Noise Pop 2013 festivities. So thank the gods of psych-pop that I ended up in front of DIIV's second consecutive sold -out show at Brick & Mortar. I've been hooked on DIIV's Oshin for the past few weeks, so I had high hopes for the heavily-anticipated Noise Pop '13 act - but I was not expecting to be so thoroughly winded by their gorgeous dreamy gloom and varied paradox of a live show. I'm not sure how they're able to mix floaty shoegaze and echoey grunge so eloquently, but I'm sure [...]

DIIV and Bleached come to the Rickshaw Stop on 8/1/12

One of my most recent obsessions, DIIV, are scheduled to play The Rickshaw Stop this Wednesday, August 1. The Brooklyn-based band plays a laid-back, reverb-soaked brand of upbeat indie pop — the kind of music you might want to dance to with your head cast down, arms out to the side and lightly listing and twisting from side to side. Kinda like you might dance if you were on "one part THC and two parts MDMA," as the band is described in their official bio. DIIV (formerly known as Dive) do a lot with a little. "How Long Have You Known" [...]
