Mixtape: Spotlight on San Francisco Singer-Songwriters

http://media.libsyn.com/media/thebaybridged/SF_Songwriters_2015_Mix.mp3 Download: Mixtape: Spotlight on San Francisco Singer-Songwriters (Podcast #361) It's not entirely clear why a remarkable new wave of singer-songwriters has begun to emerge in the San Francisco Bay Area recently, but we certainly aren't complaining. Other genres may fall more in and out of vogue, but a wide array of local songwriting talents influenced by folk, rock, blues, pop, and psych are performing regularly in places like Viracocha, Doc's Lab, and The Chapel, and banding together for showcases like the Fog City Songwriters series of quarterly events. While veteran performers like Lia Rose and The Sam Chase regularly [...]

Hayes Life Presents: Fog City Songwriters at Viracocha

In what will be their third quarterly show, the local folk series Fog City Songwriters will be hosted at Viracocha this Friday. You can expect a parlor in the round style showcase with some of the most talented and endearing musicians sequestered around the Bay. They tend to pull one out-of-towner into the mix, and this time around it's Wisconsin's Anna Vogelzang. Presented and led by promoter veteran Travis Hayes, it's a donation based event ($10-20 suggested) livening up the San Francisco cultural landscape, despite the impending closure of our one lesbian bar and locally-focused online publications disappearing. So again, though this request has been an incessant foghorn as of [...]

Thursday's show will present a stripped-down, more intimate version of her live set. She also plans on premiering a brand new song. Tickets for the show are available here. Kris Orlowski is [...]

The Forbin Project, Debbie Neigher play Art Boutiki’s ’80s night

Will '80s nostalgia ever get old? Not if the Art Boutiki has anything to say about it. However, on the venue's upcoming '80s night, which happens this Saturday, "nostalgia" won't be synonymous with "novelty": get ready for a solid lineup of Bay Area up-and-comers, including Piranha Party!, The Y Axes, Debbie Neigher, and The Forbin Project, which features Daniel Martinez of San Jose's Picture Atlantic. Also expect guest DJ sets from Nik and Ryan of Picture Atlantic, as well as work from featured artist (the visual kind) Michael Montoya. There will also be a costume contest for your entertainment, so [...]

Q&A: Debbie Neigher talks sophomore album, ‘Unravel’

Photo by No. 6 Collective San Francisco resident Debbie Neigher released the sophomore followup to her eponymous 2011 debut in November. Much like her self-titled debut, 2013's Unravel was recorded at Tiny Telephone Studios with John Vanderslice, enlisting the help of engineer Ian Pellicci and Minna Choi of Magik*Magik Orchestra. While Neigher has played synths and keyboards with a number of other Bay Area bands, her refined piano skills and intensely personal songwriting shine through on her latest solo effort. We recently caught up with Debbie Neigher via email to discuss her recent album release, and plans for [...]

Mixtape: The Orchestral Side of San Francisco Indie Rock (Podcast #317)

http://media.libsyn.com/media/thebaybridged/Chamber_Rock_Mix.mp3 Download: Mixtape: The Orchestral Side of San Francisco Indie Rock (Podcast #317) Guitars and drums may make up the core of indie rock, but a considerable number of Bay Area artists also use instruments more traditionally associated with an orchestra than a rock band. Adding strings, horns or woodwinds might seem pretentious to some -- and, admittedly, genre names like "chamber rock" and "orchestral pop" probably don't help that assessment -- but, when used deftly, these instruments can heighten a song's emotion, add weight to dynamic shifts, and provide layers of texture that generate wonderfully unexpected moments. String and [...]

Snob Theater says goodbye, final show June 22, 2012 at The Dark Room

Snob Theater, San Francisco's best (and only?) indie music and comedy night, is taking an extended hiatus after a two-year residency at The Dark Room. Booked and hosted by local comedian Shawn Robbins, the event places local music groups and comedians onstage with hilarious results. For the grand finale on June 22nd, Robbins has procured an "all-star" lineup of long time supporters, with a slew of surprise guests promised as well. The lineup features Chris Thayer (Bridgetown Comedy Festival, Funny Shits), Coree Spencer (Comedian on Comedian), the musical comedic stylings of Drennon Davis (SF Sketchfest, The Imaginary Radio Program), and [...]
