Visit their web site at goldstar.com/thebaybridged The post first ran on KQED.org. A record label may not be a necessity for a musician in 2016, considering the remarkable ease with which anyone can record an album and put it out into the world, and its benefits may not be obvious to some, given the precarious state of the music industry as a whole. Still, amidst the sea of countless new releases every week, there's undeniable value [...]
Sponsored: Deathstock II comes back to Guerneville for second year (+ a giveaway!)
It's summer, which means music festivals. Yeah, you've got the mega fests of Bottle Rock and Outside Lands sandwiching the beginning and end, but in between, we're blessed with a wide variety of smaller fests organized by and featuring many of our beloved local artists. One of our favorite summer festival lineups is Deathstock, which is entering its second installment June 17-19 at Camp Outback and McT's Bullpen in Guerneville. Curated and run by San Francisco's Death Records, with some help from LA-based Gnar Tapes, the festival has all types of rock music, ranging from the garage sounds of White [...]
Friendless Summer release new video for “All The Time”
If you're looking for some goofy-but-still-actually-decent escapist lo-fi pop, Friendless Summer is for you. Jack Brown of Friendless Summer has not only recently released a new EP with Death Records, but also a witty music video with a goofy look on romance. Watch as Brown goes on a date and sings about his love for his blow up doll, but if you want to watch this live, Emotional and Friendless Summer are ending their west coast tour in Oakland next Wednesday, March 23. It's also the official cassette release party for Friendless Summer (oh dang, that's even better!). Hopefully Jack [...]
Part/Human premieres “Touched” off debut EP out this Saturday
If you're a fan of Silver Shadows, Tiaras, Ganglians, Fine Steps, Mayyors, and 90's acid house rhythms then Part/Human was sculpted for you. Multi-instrumentalist and Silver Shadows guitarist Margaret Rhodes began Part/Human as an electronic noise side project, enlisting Kyle Hoover (Tiaras, Ganglians) on guitar, and Julian Elorduy (Fine Steps, Mayyors) on bass. They blend all their musical talents and all their projects into something only they could create together with Rhode's vision. "Touched" is a perfect example of how this project is much more intimate. Their self-titled debut EP, recorded all in their personal homes, produced by Elorduy, and mastered by Antonio Gualco [...]
Deathstock Fest coming to Guerneville in June
There was Woodstock ’69, Woodstock ’94 and ’99 (yikes), and now, on a completely new note, there’s Deathstock. SF label Death Records is celebrating their one year anniversary how? With a full blown two-day music festival campout in the woods - duh! The lineup is already partially announced, including many Death Records roster artists like Smiles, Air Surgeon, Tiaras, Teenage Chain, The Strange Land, and Cole Lodge, making it a truly local affair. Friends of the label like Tomorrows Tulips, Danny James, CCR Headcleaner, Part/Human, and label head Brian Wakefield’s own band Emotional are the other additions to the bill [...]
Best of the Rest – January 2015 (Mikal Cronin, Geographer, Sonny & the Sunsets, & more)
Every month, our editors hear lots of great new music, at shows around the Bay, exploring the far reaches of the Interwebs, and sifting through the veritable deluge of emails from artists and publicists around the globe hawking the latest songs and videos. While we'd love to write about everything that catches our ear, it's impossible – there's just too much good music out there. This is an attempt at rounding up the latest and greatest that we didn't have the bandwidth to cover throughout the month – the Best of the Rest for January 2015. Former son of [...]
