Review & Photos: Mutual Benefit, Dan Casey, Dim Peaks @ Rickshaw Stop

Photos by Tanner Pikop It was a relatively mellow Saturday night at Rickshaw Stop this past weekend, with members of Mutual Benefit, Dim Peaks, and Dan Casey mingling around the merch table before the show got started. Dim Peaks frontman Niilo Smeds was first to take the stage with his acoustic guitar, joined by Russell Highbee on an electric six-string. The pair remained seated for the duration of the set, as did about a third of the audience. Spectators were sitting on the floor as far back as the sound booth, gazing up at the stage through songs [...]

Best of 2013: Daniel Senter’s 2013 East Bay highlights

I joined The Bay Bridged staff as a Production Associate last spring, and it has been endlessly enjoyable to be pulled deeper into the sonic recesses of the Bay Area’s various scenes by TBB. As an Oakland resident, my Best of list just happened to trend toward the Bay’s warmer side, so I went with it. A few 2013 East Bay highlights, in no particular order: Glenn Jackson – Morning Swim EP The sounds are bright, breathy, and totally groovy. This three song solo debut from Oakland’s Glenn Jackson is house music to be enjoyed outside – whether on a [...]

Dan Casey drops "Playing Games" from upcoming LP 'Empty City'

(Artwork: May Lin Le Goff) Dan Casey, the brain behind Berkeley-based electronic project Yalls, is taking a different approach to his self-titled project. A far cry from his experimental dance-ready tracks, the upcoming LP Empty City (out October 22 via Ceremony) has more of a singer-songwriter vibe. As we previously discussed with Casey, the project formerly known as Steezy Ray Vibes is about "refinement and cohesion." Expect a tight, slowed-down feel to the new album. Stream "Playing Games" below, and pre-order the LP here. Casey celebrates the release of Empty City this Sunday, October 27 at Amnesia in San Francisco. [...]

Win tix to see Guards, Dan Casey, and Dante Elephante tonight!

No plans tonight? Here’s a last minute ticket giveaway! Tonight, Willcall is taking over the Rickshaw Stop, and bringing with them Dante Elephante, Dan Casey, and Guards. This show is strictly California pop music from head to toe. Kicking off the show will be surfy-upbeat pop group Dante Elephante from Santa Barbara. Their catchy vibes earned them a spot in the hand-picked Converse Rubber Tracks Sessions earlier this year at Different Fur Studios, and they continue to keep the good feels rolling. Dan Casey might be one of the most buzzed about up-and-comers of the year, hailing from Oakland’s dream [...]
