Giveaway: Damien Jurado returns to San Francisco

(photo: Elise Tyler) During his 23-year career, Seattle singer-songwriter Damien Jurado has crafted a distinguished catalog of a dozen albums and about 15 EPs. Jurado has earned critical acclaim for his indie-folk music and praise as a storyteller for his songs that emit eloquent literary tales. Whether you are a longtime fan or need an introduction to Jurado’s work, you can enter to win tickets for his show at the Chapel in San Francisco on May 29. Damien Jurado’s acoustic set silences the sold-out Independent

This may be a bold statement to make, but I have long believed Damien Jurado to be one of the best living songwriters. Okay, you're probably asking yourself, "Who the fuck is Damien Jurado?" Or maybe you're thinking, "Oh, is he the freakishly tall guy that Moby made wear a white suit and sing in a falsetto on his recent single?" Instead, Brothers and Sister's sound is as uniformly melancholy as always, but embraces some sci-fi themes, including the second coming and a UFO or two. And, [...]

Review: The Bay Bridged Happy Hour @ Benders; Damien Jurado @ The Chapel, 3/1/13 (Noise Pop 2013)

Noise Pop 2013: Damien Jurado @ The Chapel 3/1/13 - photo by Debra Zeller Friday night's Noise Pop Festival offered a chance to see a clash of styles within a couple blocks of each other, both in terms of the music played and the venues. First, I caught The Bay Bridged's Noise Pop Happy Hour at Bender's featuring Golden Void, Wild Moth, and DSTVV, and then hitched over to another Noise Pop performance from Damien Jurado down the street at The Chapel. Since the event was organized by The Bay Bridged, it doesn't feel right to gush and gush about [...]
