Conspiracy of Venus play “season finale” show, announce Indiegogo campaign

The all-women a cappella vocal ensemble known as Conspiracy of Venus have been singing their hearts out in the Bay Area since 2007. This Saturday at the Make-Out Room, the choir will perform a "season finale," a celebratory end to the most recent series of performances. More information about the show can be found on the Facebook event. This show goes hand-in-hand with another development for the ensemble. Conspiracy of Venus, while performing live for many years now, have never recorded an album - and this is something they are trying to change. To help raise funds to record their [...]

Noise Pop 2010: John Vanderslice, Nurses, Honeycomb, Conspiracy of Venus @ Swedish American Hall

Photos by: Rachel Keenan The inclusion of John Vanderslice in the Noise Pop 2010 lineup should come as a surprise to no one. Regardless of new albums, collaborations, tours, proverbial blog buzz, etc., JV's spot on the bill reflects something even greater. As both a musician and San Franciscan, he epitomizes the spirit of the Noise Pop festival: an event and institution that thrives on a sense of community through local underground music, art and film, as well as highlights from a more nationwide indie scene. JV is just that - a local musician who both supports and creates community [...]

Female A Capella joins Garrett Pierce, Devotionals @ the Rickshaw Wednesday

What is the Conspiracy of Venus, might you ask? The last chance to find out before the leaves turn will be Wednesday at their "season finale" with Garrett Pierce and Devotionals at The Rickshaw (8pm, $10). Director Joyce Todd McBride started the choir in January 2007, which sums to roughly 40-50 lovely female voices to date. Conceptually speaking, McBride describes the Conspiracy of Venus as "a symphony of sound unique to the pre-existing A Capella format, and so contemporary, you're humming it on the way out!" Known for their A Capella arrangements of timeless songwriters such as Tom Waits, Björk, [...]

Pete Bernhard (DM3), Emily Jane White, Conspiracy of Venus at the Rickshaw tonight

The Rickshaw Stop is throwing quite the Thursday: Devil Makes Three's Pete Bernhard makes a solo appearance tonight, along with two more local acts: Emily Jane White and the women acapella group Conspiracy of Venus. One might expect a similar, stripped down version of DM3, but solo, Pete finds intimacy. His music softens the bite of DM3, but in a good way -- engendering a more rustic, sincere traveling song (with harmonica, of course). April is his touring month! Sample each song off his newest Things I Left Behind, for sale through CDBaby: Pete Bernhard - Things I Left Behind [...]
