Connan Mockasin premiering new LP and film at Castro Theatre

(photo: Sam Kristofski) Connan Mockasin will premiere his first publicly-released film Bostyn ’n Dobsyn and third record Jassbusters at San Francisco's Castro Theatre on Monday, October 15. Twenty years in development, Bostyn ’n Dobsyn is a five-part melodrama film that is intended to be watched before listening to Jassbusters. The record was recorded with a full band shortly after filming. The concept for these complementary works follows the story of a fictional music teacher, Bostyn (played by Connan Mockasin), and his student, Dobson (played by Blake Pryor). By that time, his sophomore album Caramel had already been released, but it was his video for “Forever Dolphin Love” that I first stumbled upon, with its incredibly striking (frightening? hilarious?) five minute intro breaking into the somber meat of the song. “Forever Dolphin Love” stuck with me in a way reserved for a special few songs. By the time of [...]

Connan Mockasin to play Bottom of the Hill Wednesday

Connan Mockasin (born Connan Tant Hosford) just released Caramel in November via Mexican Summer. The new album is a spacey psych pop sensorium, wherein Mockasin wails and waxes on human sensuality. The live performance promises to be as [...]
