Photos: Con Brio at The UC Theatre

Con Brio (photo: Estefany Gonzalez) Bay Area band Con Brio spent the summer playing festivals such as Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, and Fuji Rock in Japan. The high-energy funk group played its first hometown show in months at The UC Theatre in Berkeley on Friday, October 14. The group played songs off the bands newest album Paradise, such as “Money,” and “Liftoff,” a song where most band members' feet never touched the ground. We snapped pictures for your viewing pleasure in case you were too busy dancing to take any, or had to miss the show. P.S. Want more show recommendations, ticket giveaways, [...]

Sponsored: Con Brio will heat up The UC next month

The first time I saw Con Brio was at this year's Outside Lands Music Festival. I told myself I was only going to stay for one song but half a dozen songs later,  I forgot about catching Big Grams and I found myself lost in a trance with the funk tunes blasting from the Panhandle stage. Singer Ziek McCarter's dance moves reminded me of a young Michel Jackson's, and the band’s chemistry was infectious. I was one of the hundreds of other people who chose to skip a trip to the main stage and watch this soulful, high-energy band. Outside Lands was [...]

Con Brio release debut full-length, ‘Paradise’

Following a complete metamorphosis signaled by the addition of vocalist Ziek McCarter and a reinvigorated live show, Con Brio is being powered by pure momentum. The band swiftly worked their way up the full spectrum of venues around the Bay and then decided to toss a few songs our way with last year's Kiss The Sun. Only in the past year did they set off on their first tour outside California. Soon after, they've acquired some kind of golden ticket on the festival circuit that has had them performing at major festivals form North America (ACL, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza) to Japan [...]

Is the San Francisco music scene dead? We search for clues.

Hot Flash Heat Wave at the Rickshaw Stop, January 31, 2016 I recently heard the music scene in San Francisco was dead, and being a writer for a website dedicated to covering the music scene in San Francisco, I was obviously a little concerned. To get to the bottom of this, I went out to find some comments from some members on the scene. But man, it was kind of difficult. I thought I'd start with Chuck Prophet, who at this point should be considered one of the deans of the SF scene (if it still exists). Unfortunately, [...]

Con Brio, Midtown Social to ring in 2015 at Rickshaw

Funkify your New Year's Eve with a dose of Bay Area soul. Coming off a sold-out appearance at the Rickshaw Stop, Con Brio will be returning to headline the venue's NYE party, and bringing Midtown Social with them. Produced by UnderCover Presents, the same team that brings you inventive re-imaginings of classic albums, such as last year's legendary performance of Sly and the Family Stone's Stand!, this lineup seems tailor-made for a New Year's event. Midtown Social makes varied, velvety soul and funk, and Con Brio is a sequinned throwback to the '70s, '80s, and other eras when showmanship could [...]

“Secret” venue returns with a show from Con Brio

After a brief hiatus, San Francisco's favorite "secret" venue, Viracocha, is back to hosting live shows, quietly starting Tuesday night with an early performance from San Francisco's soulful Con Brio. (RSVP required for admission). The antique store with the famous bathroom went through the San Francisco Entertainment Commission to legitimately register the space as a music venue, meaning shows in the cozy basement can now be properly promoted in the future. Con Brio has recently undergone a few changes of their own, perhaps none more important than the addition of native Texan Ziek McCarter to lead vocals last year. As [...]
