Pity Sex, Colleen Green, and Eskimeaux: Behind one of the best Bottom of the Hill shows of 2015

On Saturday, December 19, Bottom of the Hill will be bringing an abundance of talent to their stage for what is the most stacked lineup I’ve seen at the venue all year: Michigan sad-rockers Pity Sex, LA garage-pop star Colleen Green, and Brooklyn bedroom-to-band singer-songwriter Eskimeaux. Any of the three artists could conceivably be the headliner, and they all truly deserve to be. Read below for a brief introduction to each of the musicians before getting yourself a ticket to what is sure to be a fantastic show. Pity Sex As playful, noncommittal, and somber as their name suggests, Pity [...]

Colleen Green plays Hemlock Tavern this Sunday

Colleen Green not only is constantly listed as one of the best bands out of LA, but she's overall just fun and real. She has the capability to sing about anxiety and not make you want to cry. Her songs like "Pay Attention" and "Grind My Teeth" make you want dance off your anxiety and just enjoy the moment. What's a better way to dance off the anxiety and enjoy life than seeing her live? I've talked to many people who have seen her live and they all had one thing in common: they thought she was amazing. Apparently, there [...]

Review: Colleen Green, Upset at the Rickshaw Stop

In a world afraid of adulting, Colleen Green is ready to grow up. “OK, no more goofing around,” she said to an adoring crowd last night at the Rickshaw as she headed into her last song, “I Want To Grow Up,” off the album of the same name. The night's set list was culled directly from her new record, and played at fairly fast clip (the show started at 9 and was out by 11:15), in keeping with the hurry-up-and-get-it-over-with attitude she exhibits toward reaching adulthood. A few minutes before, she shuffled onto the stage, stoop-shouldered and hands in her [...]

The Thermals announce show at the Chapel with Colleen Green

The Thermal’s Hutch Harrison encompasses one of those signature, distinguishable vocals that's impossible to miss. Not the most surprising observation, considering that the Thermals have been doing their thing since early 2002–– veterans of indie rock, they’ve been working and consistently producing work for over a decade now. Continuing to not skip a beat, the band has announced a handful of West Coast tour dates, including a stop at The Chapel on February 20th. Joining them will be Los Angeles-based Colleen Green, who’s lo-fi pop tracks are sugar coated with her signature sweet vocals and tinkering drum machine. The pairing [...]

Colleen Green, SISU, Burnt Palms playing ProFans show @ Cafe Du Nord

Professional Fans are at it again with another Grade A California showcase featuring Colleen Green, SISU, and Burnt Palms at Cafe Du Nord on Monday, July 22. Hardly Art sweetheart Colleen Green (West LA) released her debut LP with the label in March. Following the Ramones and Descendents-inspired themes of her early releases Cujo and Milo Goes To Compton, her new album Sock It To Me soaks up the sunny sounds of sad girl stoner pop and rings them out with a sense of gloomy lo-fi flair. Watch the video for "Taxi Driver" below, and catch Colleen wearing her signature [...]
