Clipd Beaks playing 'Lost Offerings' EP release show in Oakland

Oakland's Clipd Beaks have returned with a new EP called Lost Offerings, out now on Moon Glyph. The band will be performing live at a cassette release show on Friday, October 25 at the Night Light in in Oakland. Clipd Beaks have dabbled in various sub-genres over the past decade, maintaining an orbit around what could be described as psychedelic post-punk. The four tracks on the band's latest release find Clipd Beaks plunging into dark, hazy psychedelia, ripe with grimy guitars, fluctuating vocals, and melodic pop ambiance. Lost Offerings was recorded at White Rock in West Oakland and recalls the [...]

Clipd Beaks, Mwahaha, White Cloud, Bryan Von Reuter collaborating on benefit concert for Children's Fairyland

Members of Clipd Beaks, Mwahaha, and White Cloud are teaming up with Bryan Von Reuter (of Cloud Archive) and Jeff Ray (of Taser Island) to play Magic Lantern, a benefit for Children's Fairyland, the iconic Oakland theme park (and non-profit) with its storybook sets, rides, and an animal menagerie, that also hosts a summer day camp and theater program for kids. What does "teaming up" mean, exactly? According to Von Reuter: "We'll be doing an electronic, loop-based performance that will be a partially improvised, partially composed amalgamation. We plan on having approximately three to four members up at a time, [...]

Five bucks will get you a whole lotta rock at the Elbo Room on 8/27/12

For the low, low price of just $5 you can catch Clipd Beaks, Creepers, Feral Kizzy (making the trek up from LA), and Disappearing People at the Elbo Room on August 27, 2012. That's a-buck-twenty-five per band. You can't beat these prices! Here's the video for Clipd Beaks' "World Exhaust", a track on their most recent album, WAKE. The dudes in Clipd Beaks once described WAKE as the Super Mario Bros. 2 of their ouvre, and I once failed to figure out what the hell that means. Here's a video of Creepers playing their song "Black Moon" in a bedroom: [...]

Clipd Beaks take you for a ride through time and space with their new album, WAKE

According to their Facebook page, Clipd Beaks' new album WAKE is "the Super Mario Bros 2" of their discography. That's a bold claim. Let's unpack it. Oh wait, shit... I have no idea what that means. But I can tell you that the album is six tracks of ambient free jazz drone, sounding more suited to wigging out on psychedelics than playing video games. Even the song names suggest the otherworldly and trips into the unknown: there are tracks called "World Exhaust" (which you can watch the video for above), "U.F.O.", and "In A Hole." This is not music that [...]
